Edmonton - city of champions (in hockey anyway)
Published: July 13th 2009North America » Canada » Alberta » EdmontonEdmonton is around the same size as Adelaide back in Australia. Except that its river has much more water than the Torrens! It also has what was the world's biggest shopping centre, the West Edmonton Mall. On what started out as a rainy day, we happily spent a day wondering around the mall, fulfilling one of Darrren's childhood dreams. Only problem is we didn't feel youthful enough to ride its rollercoasters, play mini golf, skate its rink etc. But we got to relive our time in LA 15 years ago, when we went to Tony Romas. We generally try to avoid the hundreds of chain restaurants here, but Tony had the best ribs we'd ever tasted and 15 years later he did not disappoint. Next morning we enjoyed a brief while at the Muttart Conservatory, four ... read more

Then we went into the Mall and spent about an hour shopping we bought cd's and books and stuff. after dinner Dana & me went swimming at the rec centre in Leduc the pool is pretty good - water slide, whirl pools, steam room, climbing wall above the pool, rope swing into the pool and the deep end is really really deep. ... read more
4th july - i think it was a saturday? quiet morning done laundry then we went to the cinema. Dean & Brendan went to see Tranformers 2 while Susan, Dana & Declan went to see Ice Age 2. Andrea: It's a strange thing to leave a city after 31 years of living there. Anna and I had a going away party on June 30th and a ton of people from my past and present turned out to say goodbye. It was great to see everyone and I'm so glad that I got a chance to talk to so many people before I left. Having never lived anywhere but Edmonton it's surreal to think that I just can't call up my friends and go for a beer or a movie or something. I'm going to miss everyone so much, and I wish that I could just take you all with me! Check out the pics from our last party in town. Thanks for coming out and seeing us off! Anna: I have enjoyed Edmonton but ... read more
28th june - went to a rodeo at ponoka today, arrived a bit late so there was only an hour or so left. but aunt margaret found a way to sneak in for free, through the saloon we went. it went right through to where the riders came out. it was really good, we watched them roping the cattle, riding the bulls, catching the wild horses and the cowgirls racing around barrels. there was also a arts and crafts fair. later that night we went for a walk and the kids all went on aunt margaret's treadmill. ... read more
Day 28. Sunday. I could hear the rain on the roof. The forecast was for morning showers and they were right. I slept on and off till 13:00 when I got up to make a little lunch and try to upload yesterdays blog. The blog site seems to be buggy right now. I keep getting error messages or it won't let me on at all just saying "try back later". By 15:00 I'm groggy so I have a nap for a couple hours. Growing up this is what Sunday's were for. Well that and going to church but one out of two is OK with me. I was thinking of trying another pub for dinner. I took the truck so I could get fuel on the way. Once I filled up at the Superstore I had ... read more
