I've been waiting for 2 years now to do this trip, and it finally appears to be taking flight. I leave for South East Asia in just over 2 weeks with my friend Lindsay.
Here's how it all started…
Why Asia? Lots of people ask me that! I spent 5 months backpacking in Australia after I finished university. People thought I was crazy for doing it on my own, but it was one of the greatest things I've ever done. Met some fabulous people, saw some simply amazing sites and ingested the ever-contagious travel bug. My travel agent insisted booking a stopover in Malaysia on my way home. I thought she was insane…why would I ever want to go there? But after 5 months of unforgettable memories, I had no money and needed to move on…the answer was Asia! People had talked about how fabulous it was there - they weren't kidding! I absolutely fell in love! The day I left, I promised myself I'd be back, but this time to see more than just KL.
So here I am, 2 years later… I'm taking a leave of absence from my job and saying goodbye to
friends and family to go explore another part of the world. Also, I'm very excited to be sharing this experience with Lindsay.
The Plan: on January 23, we spend a day in LA, and then fly to Singapore. We'll have about 6 weeks to travel through Malaysia and southern Thailand together. Lindsay and I say goodbye in Bangkok as she flies off to Australia for the second leg of her trip. I'll spend the rest of my time in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. My last stop in April will be a side trip to Dubai to visit some friends.
And so, the countdown begins. In the next 2 weeks, I will finish working, pick up malaria pills, seriously hit the gym, and indulge in Western luxuries (like real toilets!) And then lets not forget the experience of packing my backpack…only to take out half its contents and repack it!
But I'm excited - it's bound to be an experience of a lifetime!
And so... The Countdown Begins...

Hey Emily!
Your adventure sounds exciting! Actually, I've always wanted to travel this region of the world and hopefully I'll have the opportunity to do it one time, maybe in a few years... But for the moment, I'm already quite busy discovering your fantastic country! ;-)
