When: 15th - 16th May Where: Banff area of Banff National Park Weather: ~20C This probably seems like the obvious choice after settling down in Calgary. To me it was not. But with the weather being cooperative, I said "Yes". Banff, can be extremely crowded & overrated. But today, it was not. The mountains were gorgeous. No other word to explain. The place strangely resembled Whistler(much smaller though) & the town is pretty upscale. And Banff is strategically placed in between those huge mountains. Anywhere you turn heavy mass mountains with sharp pointy tips grace you with their presence. In peak Summer upto 50,000 people visit Banff NP every day! That's like a lot of people. Hell more than Banff can handle, I am sure. And Summer is July- early September When in Ca, I was ... read more

DAY 55, MAY 8, 2010 We left Golden, British Columbia after Kirk checked out an antique store for old canoes. Always the collector! We thought yesterday was spectacular but it certainly did not compare to what we saw to-day. The drive from Golden took us along the Trans-Canada #1 and we drove about 350 km. in total. We entered Yoho National Park and went through Kicking Horse Pass. The mountains rose all around us and were covered in snow and glistening in the sun. The tempreture was about 7*C, sunny and cool. Perfect driving weather. Our first stop was the Natural Bridge on the way in to Emerald Lake near the town of Field. I will try and insert some pictures. I have not yet figured out how to do it beside the appropriate text. Oh ... read more

Totally addicted to snowboarding..... I've snowboarded for a season before on the East Coast of Canada at Mont Tremblant, Quebec, but this season snowboarding Sunshine and Lake Louise was way better than what I could have expected. I bought a brand new snowboard and heading out with my friends to Sunshine/Lake Louise was something I looked forward to every week. Here are some photos of our Winter Season. ... read more

Well, well, well... It has been quite a while hasn't it? Actually... the last update I made on here was January 31st. And, WOW that time has absolutely flown! I will try to do my absolute best of giving you a detailed entry about the past few months, beginning on January 3rd 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia. February 3rd 2010 - Vancouver/Whistler So today was early, about 4am early. It was my time to move on and leave the beautiful city of Vancouver. I was heading up to Whistler, British Columbia (about a 2 hour drive). My coach transfer was arriving at 6am. The time had come, we were driving out and the city morning peak-hour chaos had began. Cars absolutely everywhere, we seemed like the only ones travelling out of the city. The drive along ... read more

Had a great day in the Banff National Park today. We arrived here yesterday afternoon after an overnight stop in Revelstoke on Sunday, and a quick stroll round Lake Louise Monday lunchtime. Today the weather has been gorgeous - lots of sunshine and very few clouds until about 4pm (mind you, it was gorgeous Sunday & Monday too). We got up early this morning and we were on the road by 8:30 (and we also made a supermarket stop before then to pick up provisions for the day!). We drove up the Bow Valley Parkway, looking to see if we could see any wildlife. We were pretty disappointed: it's obviously far too chilly for any self respecting animal to be out and about. Until, that is... about 1 km from the end of the parkway, we ... read more

We arrived in Banff in May 2009 and boy what an awesome summer it was... After our Moose Tour from Vancouver to Banff and countless nights of drinking and seeing new sights we had arrived in our new home town of Banff, were we would be for the next year. Working and living at the Rimrock has had its ups and downs, but has funded our working holiday so far. Ohnmar: I was never really too interested in summer in Canada, how good can it be? I was never really into hiking but after the first few weeks in Banff I had found a new passion for cycling, hiking and exploring the outdoors. Between May and October we spend many days exploring the local area. We went cycling around the Vermillion Lakes and Lake Minnewanka. ... read more

Hi all, life has finally quitened down here after a flurry of visitors and activities over christmas and new year. We have been enjoying slightly warmer weather which is nice, only getting down to about -10. We celebrated Christmas the best we could, Danni, Brigid, Dan and Clinchy were all here to make it feel like a family event which was nice. The day started in true christmas fashion with pancakes and icecream for breakfast, while we patiently waited for poor Bec to get home from work to open our presents. I scored some great presents and we tried to celebrate Aussie style with some snow cricket, played with a plank of wood and tennis ball. It only lasted a couple of innings due to frozen toes. We continued the activities inside with table top hockey, ... read more

Banff, Alberta, Canada. November/December 2009. A trip that i will never ever forget. Having never taken an adventure in the snow, my first real time in cold weather (-26c Lake Louise) it was an amazing experience. Even if you aren't into the skiing/snowboarding side of life, there is still plenty to do in a place like Banff. Just kicking back with a coffee as you walk Banff Avenue is a great way to enjoy life. Plenty of gift stores to choose from to pick up a little piece of memorabilia. There is also the Gondola Ride which opens up to some fantastic views. Then there are the journeys you can take that are around Banff which are spectacular driving. Lake Louise is definitely a must see. My gloves that were good enough for Banff Conditions (-15c), ... read more

Banff is a gorgeous mountain town in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Millions of visitors flock to this tourist mecca every year, as they've done for a hundred years. The random discovery of the hot springs by three Canadian adventurers in the 1890's proved the catalyst for today's tourist phenomenon. Soon after the Canadian Pacific Railway cottoned on to the potential of the area, and financed the construction of the rail line as well as building the famous Banff Springs Hotel and the Chateau Lake Louise. Build it and they will come is a famous saying ... well, I'm here! Travelling in a North American winter is gorgeous, but the photos don't do the scenery justice, and the brilliant blue waters in the lakes are frozen over at this time of year. However, experiencing the ... read more
