Hello everyone! Just a very quick update on our travel blog.
We've said a sad 'goodbye' to Whistler, where we'd spent two weeks. It really was a great place to snowboard and have fun! Whilst we where there, it was the World Ski & Snowboard Festival, which meant there was heaps of fun things going on, from 'big air' competitions to lots of live music. One night we stood out in scarfs and hats watching De La Soul with boarders jumping doing 720's in the background to huge fireworks and 'Me, Myself and I'!
We made our way down the Icefields Parkway, one of the most amazing drives to do in the world, apparently. We could see why, and appreciated meandering along in our van, taking in the most fantastic scenery. It really was breathtaking - Josh only just managed to keep us on the road as he marvelled at the strata of the mountains! We took an excursion out on to one of the glaciers in a bizarre big-wheeled bus, which wasn't particularly exciting but another chance to take in the incredible views! We made it to Lake Louise and were pleased to find out that the ski season had been extended, so we enjoyed 2 days of the best boarding we've had to date! Awesome powder and hardly anyone around. We didn't miss the knarly snowboarders we've been accustomed to in Whistler with their trousers round their knees (hilarious to watch them try to negotiate the stairs going up to the gondola!).
We have now moved on to Banff, where we are staying outside the village. Tomorrow night we've booked in to a hotel in the Sunshine Village so we can board for a few days and also because our 'home' has no heating. The 'boiler' decided to go wrong, so although it's supposed to be spring here, -15 temperatures are not too pleasant! We could see our breath this morning whilst wrapped in our sleeping bags! Not the nicest! So really looking forward to some luxuries a hotel can offer!
Despite being a little cold, we're both having a fantastic time and feel very healthy. Josh is claiming that his ski trousers require a belt due to loss of weight. (I think he just wants to join the knarly boarders of Whistler!).
Love to all,
Beth & Josh
