The rugged, brown scenery streaked past my window at an alarming rate. Each bend in the road was accompanied by a slight squealing as the tires struggled to keep their tenuous hold on the asphalt. We charged up a slight incline in the road and then, right when we reached the crest, I got a strange sensation like we were flying. It only lasted for a split second before the screech of the tires and a jarring thud confirmed that we had been airborne. I looked up to the driver in the front seat, his gloved hands tightly gripping the steering wheel, and saw a broad smile on his face – He was still in control. My travel companion turned around from the front passenger seat. He had an equally broad smile that I knew mirrored ... read more

Breakfast here in Pamukkale seems to be a big deal. We had a typical Turkish plate of cucumber, olives, Tomato, grape but all from the hostel garden. The grapes were picked from the vines right above our head. During breakfast we were joined by the owner who chatted to us whilst we ate. We found out that he had voluntarily joined the army and had served on the border with Iraq which is currently experiencing a lot of problems. You have to do military service here but you can choose to join as young as twelve (they don't fight, only join military school.) The army is vitality important here because it acts as a counter balance to the government which is currently slightly religious. Attaturk stated that religion and politics cannot be mixed and most Turkish ... read more

... read more

Hey guys sorry it has been so long since I have written. I have been busy and havent gotten around to writing but I had some free time before I go to bed. So its already November, wow.On one hand its hard to believe Ive been here for so long and on the other hand its hard to believe i have so much time left. I will be flying home at 1am on December 21st and should be in boston at around 2:30 pm. So, I have been here for roughly 13 weeks. Throughout that time I have gone through a lot of emotions. At the beginning I absolutley adored Israel and loved every minute I was here. Now, the program hasnt been everything we had hoped and the city has lost its glow. Now, for ... read more

Rob went to breakfast whilst I laid in. When he got back we packed our bags which took a while because we were surprisingly spread out considering how few things we have. We stopped at a shop owned by a friend of Jimmy's. After we bought some postcards we chatted to her for a while about traveling. I told her how I'd love to go to Iran and she listed a load of other places to go instead, all of which we had already been. Once listing all these places to visit she told us we should just go home. We both felt rather well traveled. Until last night we had believed that we have visited St John's basilica in Sirince, but an Aussie staying at Urkmez told us that the basilica ruins were actually in ... read more

IT RAINED TODAY!!! That's right. IT RAINED. Chelle was going out to the doctors and so she put the roof down on the car and drove out of the carpark building, only to look up in great puzzlement when she felt something tapping her on the head. The taps turned out to be rain drops. Which greatly confused her for a little while. ... read more

So, we're still waiting to hear when Peter's interview is. Hopefully it's going to be on Tuesday afternoon and we're both fairly sure that it'll just be the one interview as he's going to be seeing Abdul-Haq as he's over from Bahrain. Normally, I think it would have been that Peter would have been interviewed by MAL and maybe AWC and then had a vidcon with the Bahrain office, but as AHM is here... I still have ups and downs about going. It will be such a wonderful experience and opportunity if we are able to go but leaving family and friends behind is going to be incredibly hard - I get upset if I even think about saying goodbye to Mummy and Daddy.... read more

Let's begin wıth the positives. If someone had asked me, on leaving Europe, who were the most endearing people we have come across this year, it would be a close contest. The Argentinians came out of the blocks, the Greeks were competitive, Albanian police got a guernsey. The gold medalists for me were gererally the French, particularly while the women who work ın boulangeries maintain that almost ıntangible demeanour I found so engaging. Now, sorry France, it's time to stand aside and hand the yellow shirt over to the Turks. These people extend the welcome mat way above and beyond the call of duty. The food? An absolute treat - baclava desserts delivered on pushbike my personal favourite, gözleme - savoury turkısh pancake, a close second. The sights? Heading south from Selçuk, we first hit a ... read more

Well we woke this morning with the primary intent of phoning the Fenerbahce ticket line to try and book tickets. Jimmy did try but they told him we would have to buy tickets from a club shop somewhere. Jimmy suggested going to Izmir for the day and buying tickets from the club shop there. However, Rob was intent on experiencing Turkish beach and so after some recommendations by Jimmy, we made our way to Millie national park. It took two buses and a considerable amount of time to get there. We were both expecting it to be a lot nearer and a lot easier to get to. We paid our 3ytl each to get in and got off the dolmus slightly worried that the time and expense of getting there would not be worthwhile. We reached ... read more

After a late night and a couple of bad nights sleep in a row I opted to stay in bed whilst Rob went to breakfast. I didn't sleep much but when Rob came back we took our time getting up and ready. Once up, we strolled down the road to see one of the seven ancient wonders of the world. Ok, well it used to be one of the wonders but now all that is left is a pillar and plenty of stones. Anyway we had a look and took the obligatory photos and then climbed up to the top of the site. As we were climbing up, Rob caught sight of a tortoise just walking up the hill to the top of the ruins. We followed it around for a while until it seemed panicked ... read more
