We had planned an early start today as we are going on the round town Dubai Big Bus. Unfortunately, George was not well overnight, so we delayed our departure from the hotel till about 11.00. We take the metro to Dubai Mall, and head to the bus stops. This is not as easy as it sounds. The Mall is hugh and has about six different entrances on various different levels and is vast. Today, we do the Red City Tour which takes us around the old part of Dubai and then up to Wafi mall, another area of Dubai that we have not visited before. We sat on top in the open to get the maximum views and photograph potential. Bottles of water provided free of charge to keep hydrated and prevent you falling poorly from ... read more

Today is our first early morning of the holiday as we have a breakfast booking in the Burj Al Arab for 9.30 this morning. This is the only seven star hotel in the world. Following yesterday’s failed trial run on the buses, we flagged down a local taxi and enjoy the luxury of our ride through Dubai. We were dropped off at Souk Madinat so that we can walk down the roadway towards the Burj and take in the view. The building is just as spectacular as we were expecting it to be. Security to enter this building is very high. You have to have proof of a booking inside to gain entry. Our reservation this morning is in their Bab Al Yam restaurant on the ground floor. From the time that we entered the building ... read more

This morning, we enjoyed our final complimentary breakfast from this hotel. As we have a busy day ahead of us, we decided we needed more selection so headed to the main Chef´s House for the buffet. With the packing completed, we were checked out by about 11.30am and in a local taxi on our way to the next hotel located in the International Financial Centre aka DIFC. Dubai loves their use of abbreviations. We have now booked into the four stars Warwick Hotel in downtown Dubai for six nights. The main reason for moving at this point was the price of the Radisson Blu would have been too much for a 10 day stay. For the Warwick Hotel we are again using one of the Entertainer Travel Book vouchers. This gives us the second night free ... read more

Today is the second day of the weekend here, so still no breakfast in the business lounge so we headed to the Chef´s House for our complimentary breakfast. As we have a morning free today, we took the tram round the marina. We got off at Jumeirah Beach Residence tram station 1. From here, we were able to take a short walk along the sea front. Very much a tourist orientated area, but it is nice to say we saw it this time. We walked for about a mile, then decided it was really too hot to walk any further so headed to Jumeirah Beach Residence tram station 2 and got the tram back to the hotel. Back at the hotel, we made use of the business lounge as today is our last day and we ... read more

Friday is the first day of the weekend here, so not a lot happening until the lunchtime brunches begin. As it is the weekend, they are not serving breakfast in the business lounge so we venture down to the Chefs House for our complimentary breakfast. The selection here is vast and lavish as can be. Every possible breakfast item imaginable was there. We only ate a small amount today, as we have a very large brunch booked. We spent a while in the business lounge catching up with things and enjoying the free beverages before walking to Media One Hotel for brunch which is just down the road from our hotel. The tradition in UAE for Friday´s is to partake in a brunch. These seem to take on several forms, but all involve eating lots of ... read more

Dubai is all about valuing yourself, personal esteem, wellness, wellbeing, diversity, respect, honesty and eating. It is a Muslim country. If any of these things cause you a problem, Dubai is not a place you should really visit. Today we enjoyed temperatures of 38 – 40 degrees with heavy humidity. The heat here is very different to Tenerife. As we had been travelling for two days, today we are taking it a bit easy. Travelling days are always tiring when covering the bigger distances no matter how seasoned a traveller you may be. We started the day with breakfast in the business lounge. All part of the free Business Class upgrade we were given. Only a small selection of food available in the lounge, but it was plenty for us. A great start to our day. ... read more

Today we are travelling from London Gatwick to Dubai International (DXB) , United Arab Emirates aka UAE. The flight time was six hours and forty five minutes. We took off from London Gatwick in the day light and landed in evening darkness in Dubai. The UAE is three (3) hours ahead of UK and Tenerife time. The local currency is the United Arab Emirate Dirham aka AED. One Dirham is about £0.20 pence so around five Dirhams to the £1.00. The exchange rate has again been negatively impacted since Brexit. We have waited a whole year before we can once again travel on the excellent A380 Emirates double-decker plane. We had seats on the lower deck about halfway down the plane over the offside wing of this beast. When George stayed at the Premier Inn at ... read more

It is 7.10am and I’m sitting at Terminal 3 at Dubai…… I know, it’s something like 1pm at home… I sat next to a nice couple from Doncaster, flying to Glasgow for a funeral. Every now and then I would see the lady leave her seat and head in the direction of the toilet. I wondered if I had again attracted folk who suffer from motion sickness; it turned out she was just a nervous passenger and liked to get up for a walk every now and then. I would really recommend flying with Emirates. The staff are very attentive, food good, a fair amount of leg space (but it does help if you are my height, the mid 5fts)…. But the biggest and most impressive thing is the entertainment system. There are over 2500 channels ... read more

We're not looking forward to the more than twenty hours between the time we leave the apartment and arrive at our Hong Kong hotel. We bid farewell to our cosy little lodgings, and catch the water bus to Piazzale Roma and then the bus to the airport. There's a very tearful young Italian girl in the security queue in front of us bidding sad farewells to her boyfriend and two other friends. The boyfriend keeps sneaking along the queue to steal a final kiss. Other people in the queue egg him on. One final kiss becomes several spread out over about twenty minutes, which only seems to be making things harder for the poor girl. She smiles bravely whenever she turns around to look at her friends, but then can't stop sobbing when she knows they ... read more

After a lovely full day at the beach in Fiumocino, caught our 10.00pm flight from Rome to Abu Dhabi...we have two nights here but Mark has a 4hr layover and heads back to Melbourne. Unfortunately our friend Desmond is away in Ireland but had everything organised for us and sent a driver to pick us up from Abu Dhabi airport and whisked us to our beautiful suite at the Dusit Thani...32 degrees at 6.00a.m....lots of sand and dust in the air....waiting for us was Desmond's PA Shane to welcome us and check us in, she has been absolutely magic checking on us and making sure we are OK and booking dinner etc. We are very lucky to have been staying at the Dusit Thani, every single staff member has been exceptional, could not do enough for ... read more
