Geo: 25.27, 55.33Well, our holiday is coming to an end, this morning, we have to say goodbye to Paris, but before we leave, we still have time to see a bit more of the city. We awoke early, time to start eating what ever food we had left, thank god for the Nespresso coffee machine in this room, it was the best! We finalised our bags, and we still have 2 hours before our pick up to the Airport. What else would you do for 2 hours? Well, Clint and I put on our warm stuff, and went walking, quite crisp this morning, about -2 and clear skies. We set off towards the Opera, a little bit further from where we would catch the hop on, hop off bus. It was a really nice sunrise today, ... read more

Greetings friends. These are the tales of my adventures. After a lovely meal with my parents and Jamie, we set off for departures, my mum had a tear in her eye which was very sweet. It reminded me of all those years ago when I left home, except I think back then she was happy to get rid of me. We walked into the airport with backpacks on, heading away from the usual Virgin check-in desk to America which was weird. I wouldn't say it's conventional backpacking. Straighteners and every kind of conditioner have been packed. I brought a torch in case shit really goes down. I boarded the Emirates airlines which is fantastic. The Airbus has loads of space, excellent entertainment and was inexpensive. They also offer live TV so I was fortunate enough to ... read more

Geo: 25.27, 55.33Today is Sue's 50th Birthday, time to celebrate in Dubai. We had a sleep in till 6am!! Yay!! This morning, after checking times for our tours, took the train to the Burj Khalifa, this time a little more relaxed, (? That's not how I remember it) but still needing to be back at the Hotel by 2pm, we split up so we could each discover the many shops at this enormous shopping centre. We were picked up in a 4 wheel drive and after picking up 4 more people we headed out into the desert, approximately 1 hour away. The desert is full of 4WD cars and there must be over 1000 out there as the side of the highway was full of cars and busses with no one in them. There was about ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! Today I started by going to the Al Bastakiya, an historical area built around the mid 19th century, that contains the oldest buildings in Dubai. The area spans some 31,000 square metres and is free of charge. It's a very lovely area to walk around in and just enjoy the atmosphere, it's filled with museums and cultural sites of various artistry and it's all free of charge which is really great. There is also a piece of the walls of old Dubai remaining inside the district. A really beautiful feature here is the barajeel, tall wind towers that stretch up into the sky which really elevates the feelings of being in the old orient. This area was actually scheduled to be demolished in 1980 and much of it was demolished and the ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! I landed early this morning at 2 a.m after an overlay in Istanbul which was the cheapest flight to get to Dubai. I must admit that when I booked the flight I was a bit hesitant to book a flight that would have me landing in the middle of the night but things was nice and calm and it felt very safe here. Nothing was open at this time of course so I just browsed the area for a while, checking out a couple of the mosques around the airport, before I made my way into the city. My first goal was the massive Dubai Mall so I took the bus to the newly constructed metro to it, the bus was interesting as it had a separate area that was only allowed ... read more

Just a few weeks after my trip to Abu Dhabi I flew to the Emirates again, straight into Dubai this time. I had been there some three years ago and it was nice to be back. This time the plan for me was to see some more of our airline clients down there to discuss our research and assessment products for pilot selection. Moreover, I was supposed to provide some training to my local colleagues, three fantastic ladies and their wonderful MD. I arrived in Dubai late on a Saturday, or to be more precise, at 1 am on Sunday morning. I had booked a fast transfer through immigration, which is a smart thing to do in Dubai. It is not very expensive, but it can save you from queuing in immigration for an hour or ... read more

Arrived at Dubai after a 7 1/2 hour flight, having fallen asleep during Ghostbusters, watched Fear the walking dead and having eaten a fab meal. Despite a delay in taking off the Captain - who announed he was the best! was true to his word and got us there on time, good man. I have now discovered the advatage of being fat and not so young, it means the security guards are not interested in rifling through your suitcases! My knickers clearly do not have the same appeal for them as the sylph like young women who were being selected, we were ignored and got out quick. I had forgotten about the crazy taxi queuing and allocation system but soon remembered and some howwe ended up in a car and on our way. We checked into ... read more
