8 months. 8 long months since I've last presented my passport to an immigration officer. 8 long months since I've inhaled the great artificial airport air. 8 months since I had this hhhhmmmm feeling of a flight.
And there it is. I'm heading to Turkey, for few days. Half of it is gonna be probably deleted from my memory due to severe alcohol consumption, and some of it are gonna be in Istanbul.
For those of you how don't know yet, I'm a member of the hash house harriers group. It's a drinking group with a running problem: we run, we crawl, we walk for the beer. For an outsider it seems like a crazy idea, in Hebrew we say: "a foreigner won't get it" to us hashers it looks like the most normal thing: it's an international group of people that have at least one thing in common: beer. Most of us are normal people in "real life", some are even serious. But when we're in this group we are different. It's like we get the permission to become idiots. We do foolish things that bring this spark to our eyes when we remember and talk about it among
us. I have visited several local groups in my travels, and I'm always experiencing great adventures whenever I hit one of (o.k. I aim at hitting) those groups. Some of them are becoming good friends, some of them are just great people to have a beer or two or ten with, most of them are just great people to meet.
Personally, It brings something out of me, something that some people will never see in me. As a complete control freak I never get drunk. That’s what everyone knows. I never late myself lose control. Almost never. I can remember (kind of) the few times it had happened to me. Or - - to say the truth, I can remember not remembering. In this group it's different I let myself go. I don't know if It's because I'm with a big group of people suffering from the same problem I do (the need to get loose, free). Maybe it's because I see people older than me and smarter than me being foolish and enjoying it…
After this long story (for more details please email me or send a private MSG) I've spent 3 days with one of those groups:
265 of us have arrived to Fethiye Turkey for an important weekend. People from Turkey, England, USA, Ireland, The Netherlands, Spain, Romania, Germany, Israel (Me Me Me), Switzerland, And I can't remember other places have arrived there all got very busy training our drinking muscles. It was a great weekend. The weather was perfect - not to warm for the Israeli among us and sunny enough for the Europeans among us. The organization (265 people require a great one) was great, the scenery was amazing; we've enjoyed a great hike. It was almost the best weekend one can ask for. Those of you, who've been there, know what I'm talking about. Those whom are hashers - start planning for late may - the EuroHash. Those who have no idea - I'm sure you find this blog Very Boring.
The last 30 hours of this short vacation I've spent in Istanbul with people I've met on the hash. They know Istanbul a lot better than me and have showed me around, I had a great adventure, they took care of me, showing me around, explaining me what's up, taking me to places I never would have arrived myself (not only the
obvious musts for a first timer) I am happy I made new friends. As usual with me, I didn't bother taking too many photos….
