Merhaba!
hello, all the way from a wee caravan, complete with free internet, at the Oludinez Blue Lagoon on the turkisk SW coast! well its been nearly 7 weeks (i think, have lost track of time) since i left edinburgh and the uk for egypt. ive been a slacker with the groupie emails, probably due to having a constant travelling companion this time! however marie has just left to start heading back to istanbul and nz while im slowly heading towards the greek islands.
we delayed our flight to turkey in order to avoid arriving the same day as Bush for the NATO conference that shut down most of istanbul and had already sparked some bombs. So far in Turkey we have seen the fairy chimneys and ancient christian underground cities of cappadokia, the statues of gods on top of mt nemrut, and several hot, dry and ancient cities in the SE where we hopped over the border (that sounds a lot easier than it was!) to syria for 3 days of gorgeous food and very generous people, but it was just too hot so we did a 24hr mission back to turkey and the treehouses in the beautiful crystal clear stream filled olympos valley leading down to the sea. we have just finished a blue cruise along the coast for 4 days BUT while in butterfly valley, perhaps trying to make up for the lack of actual butterflies, i took a heavy tumble down some very well polished marble boulders of a dry waterfall bed and dislocated my right elbow! ouch! i still had to walk out of the valley, hitch a ride on a turkish mafia speedboat, then taxi to the hospital in the next town, then the usual hospital wait with added language confusion!
so I now get to wear a full arm cast for the last 3 weeks of my holidays in turkey and greece, bugger!
So im now just chilling and swimming in an inflatable ring, so its still better than being at work!
Will be on Santorini island in greece on the 31st.
