Goreme village makes its living from agriculture and tourism. It is located in the middle of the national park, at one end of the Valley of the Pigeons.
In the village, ancient or recent houses can be found along with earth pillars that are still used as houses, warehouses or stables.
The natural charm of this village is becoming more and more disguised by the boardings, signs and shops which are springing up to attract tourists.
Many boarding houses welcome travellers. The open-air museum in Greme has many outstanding Byzantine churches. The village is also the end of a walk through the Valley of the Pigeons, from Uhisar.
