at the calcuim moutains Quick, who is the Goddess of love?
Yes, you are right. It was Aphrodite and she had a city built in her honor.
Aphrodisias is the ancient city that the first settlers lived in 5000 BC and continued to live in until 1100 AD. Once the city was abandoned, dirt slowly covered the city (and a few earthquakes helped as well) and today it is under excavation in Turkey.
I had the privilege to walk around and see this amazing city. What’s most impressive is the Greek sculptures left behind. I saw sculptures of Achilles and the City of Troy prince; the mythological gods and goddess. I stood on stage of the theater and sang a song with a fellow traveler wondering who stood in my spot a thousand years ago? Three thousand? Exciting, yes indeed. I took an impressive amount of photos in the city, 91 to be exact. Gosh, I love digital.
Okay, two things; Cheetos and Evil Eyes.
First, the Cheeto nuts. I was eating my wonderfully delicious cheeto-like- nuts while drinking coffee in the café at Aphrodisias, some native (again, assuming here) rush over to me and told me to stop. It

a coffin..I know...but the detail, wow seems those nuts are considered “bar food” and you only eat them at night with your Efes (beer.) I was committing a social crime by eating them in the afternoon with coffee (another social crime I might add since coffee is only drank in the afternoon.) It seems my Honorary Turkish National Card maybe in jeopardy.
Okay, so I know what the cheeto nut is now. It’s a pistachio nut rolled in a light coating and then bake with salt and spices and cheese. They are wonderful, or haven’t I told you that yet?
Second, Evil Eyes. They are blue and typically made of glass. They are used to ward off evil. I’ve been told (and yes, I believe) that the legion of the evil eye is from medusa. Medusa was once a beautiful women but since had captured the heart of the prince who was promised to another, her long hair was turned into snakes and her eyes would cause anyone to turn to stone who looked in them. The people wanted protection from this evil and thus the evil eye wards off bad luck and evil glances I suppose.
My brother told me from his
internet research, the eye is blue because foreigners typically have blue eyes and the blue eyes locking with one another keeps evil away. (Hasn’t worked so well for tourist.) I have purchased a few evil eyes since I think I can use all the good luck I can get. Including a evil eye necklace I’ve been wearing for days. I am sure its working because I left my adapter for my converter in my last hotel. Oops. No charging camera battery; no charging computer; no blog.
This was quickly becoming a tragic event. I discovered the adapter was missing late last night and this morning told everyone at my breakfast table. Ten minutes later (maybe fifteen) and in my room, I had two adapters. My evil eye is working. I was told such by the front desk guy who gave me one that was in the lost and found. I think next I am going to buy a bracelet, earrings and hopefully I can find a scarf. Scarf?? Did someone say scarf?? And just in case you are wondering, yes I have a new scarf or two in my possession. And so it goes.
Prost.
