Day 15.
(24/04/09)
(Welcome home granddad.)
Yesterday at night my granddad finally got home from the hospital, still unavailable of moving his right hand side of the body and still talking gibberish, but he’s home and it has definitely brought joy over the building to have him here.
last time I mentioned that I would save a few lines about transport, and I thought what would be a more suited place than in the wan, which I get from and to Beirut in, sitting here right now with the laptop up seems kind of weird because everyone around me are like as passive as possible.
Anyway, it’s a quite short trip from home to Beirut so I’ll try to make this short or type extremely fast. The wan, is a Toyota Hiace with as many seats in it as possible, 3 x 2 seats the left side, 3 x 1 fold up seat in the right side, and then another 2 seats by the driver of course, so the space you have is minimal, but it’s the cheapest way of travelling from my place, it’s down to 1250 LBP, close to 1 dollar, and that’s for I’d say 12-15km, it takes about 10 minutes, which quite much means you are afraid of the whole thing falling apart for 10 minutes straight unless we are holding still, because you can literally look through the thing at some points and it’s rather common that the slide door is open while driving so it can pick up people walking on the side walk, it’s quite much like the bus at home, but this one stops at random places to fill up, or when people wants to get off and you genuinely pay according to how far you have travelled with him, but I’ve gotten more or less used to it now, but the first trip was surely an experience I’ll be able to think back to and at least pull a little smile, I was sat in the middle, and on the way down, people would poach me to pass on the money to the driver, because the whole deal is you hop in, take a seat, then a bit before you have to get off, you pass the money to the driver and tell him where you want to get off, and I didn’t know that so I got off a good bit after the place I was suppose to get off. Alright, we’re in Koala(Pronounced Cola, got me really confused) now, so I better stop now, but I’m off to a mall called Spinney’s, which apparently is rather big.
I’ve found a place to sit, in another Starbucks, and again I’ve gone with a ice coffee, and as a little special note to Martin, “They’ve got Cheesecake!” which, I felt the need to try for the sake of the Cheesecake tradition, but Imo it’s not as good as the one from Barresso, in Copenhagen, the bottom isn’t as crispy but otherwise I guess it’s alright.
Spinney’s is nothing big really, it’s 3 stages and half the size of like “Fiske Torvet” in Denmark, and in all fairness it’s just normal supermarket with some additional around it and on top of it, but it has a Starbucks and that means Ice Coffee.
“Anyway, by the time you read this I’ve already uploaded it but the plan right now is to go and put this up and chat a bit around on MSN, I’ve bought a new purse and some more things to read and write, and I’ve started to learn the alphabet in all fairness things are going well, and effort is being put into making this year what I had hoped for, I hope all of you at home are having a good time, and things are going well, I’ve got no way other than the internet to check up news, and internet is a rare thing at the moment, but I reckon now that grandpa is home, I’ll be less in the hospital and more outside doing others, and probably some chatting and uploading pictures will be a possibility.”
All the best regards.
From the other side of the world.
Yours sincerely
Mike.
