View from my apartment on Dizengoff Well, I have made it to my new home in Tel Aviv! Dizengoff 89 will be my home for the next month. I landed in Tel Aviv today around 1:30 PM. The flight was eleven hours, and I was happy to be able to sleep a large portion of that time. I was also happy to met a new friend at the airport on our long layover. We met one another as we were sitting in the air Canada terminal, and even managed to switch seats on the airplane so we were able to sit by one another. My new friend is Leah from Herzilliya (apologizes in advance if I misspelled!) The Air Canada food was not to satisfying...my lunch was a small portion of chicken with veggies, bread, and a chocolate mousse dessert. Breakfast included eggs, potatoes, yougurt, and fruit. Small portions for my taste! But, I survived on it for the eleven hour flight and later on filled my stomach with Aroma (Aroma is similar to a Starbucks or Caribou, but more selection for food too, good deli sandwiches.)
I was greeted at the airport by my wonderful Israeli friend, Reuven! (he lived with my family summer 2011).

Don't let the prices scare you away--it's in sheckels! I was happy to be able to connect to the airport wifi right away and connect with Reuven to coordinate a pick up location. The wonders of technology! Reuven drove us to Tel Aviv where I am staying. Driving down the highway of Israel with the windows down was a good way to start of my Israel experience! And no friends, I have not spotted a camel yet (for those of you who think Israel has camels like America has squirrels.😉....But Israel does have cats ALL over. Most common to see cats here.) Reuven was a blessed help to me today in arranging all of my plans--contacting my programs coordinators to get my apartment key, showing me around Tel Aviv, helping me grocery shop in the Israeli grocery stores where everything is in Hebrew! Interesting that in the states we are familiar with the term cottage cheese....here, in Israel it's common to just say "cottage." I asked Reuven where we can find cottage cheese in the grocery store and he says ma?! (Ma is Hebrew for what.)
At this point in the day, I am happy to be winding down from the past two days of travelling. Despite all

Israeli money "sheckel" of the travels, I do not feel jet lagged, and perhaps this is because I slept on the plane so much. Or perhaps it has not yet hit me and it will tomorrow.
Speaking of tomorrow, you might wonder what my plans are. I have plans to go to my volunteer location, Kadimah Youth Center for an orientation, and I suppose "tour" around Tel Aviv. The night plans are perhaps salsa dancing with Reuven and friends! Reuven is a salsa dancer in Israel, he teaching salsa lessons! When he visited the states we took him to Famous Daves to Salsa dance in Uptown Minneapolis....It's safe to say Israel salsa dancing might be lead us to more excitement! As they say in Israel Yalla Ballagan (Hebrew for "it would be awesome").
For now, I'll leave you with some photos of my travel and arrival adventures!
Peace, love, and Sababa (Sababa is Hebrew for "cool" or "great")
Ms. Sarah
