Travelling to Alaska & looking for information about nightlife/entertainment to celebrate our wedding day.

Hi there, we're a couple travelling to Alaska this summer to see this amazing place and also to get married. We're having our ceremony outdoors just outside the town of Girdwood. Rather than driving back to Anchorage which is only a half hour drive away, can anyone suggest a nearby town/an alternative to Anchorage, that has some good nightlife with live music/bars? Thinking of Seward at the moment, if anyone has info on this area perhaps, it would be great.
Many thanks for replies.

Why not try Girdwood itself? I live there, as far as music/food goes outside of Anchorage, it's one of your better bets as well as being one of the prettier towns in the state.

Maxine's would be a great place for an after wedding get-together. Will it just be the two of you, or is it a party? It's a relaxing place for either, with pleasant ambience, great food and beer/wine list, and generally has live music on Firday and Saturday nights.

After that, you could go to the "Dive", aka Chair Five. It's a fun late night destination most nights of the week.

Plus, there is lots to do in and around the rain forest, hiking trails all over, fishing and rafting, hang gliding, take the tram up to Seven Glaciers for a fancy wedding night dinner with an unbeatable view. You can stay at Hotel Alyeska, or check out one of the fantastic B&Bs around town. Rent bikes at the Ski & Cyclery shop or use the Glacier Valley Transit to get around if you're not/don't want to drive.

Haven't spent a ton of time in Seward, but it's a good overnight trip from Girdwood if you want to make that your home base, maybe even look into taking the train from Girdwood and back. The biggest advantage I would think Girdwood has over Seward is the music, as I don't see too many bands with Seward on their itenerary, but they frequently make a stop here.

Hi there,

Thanks so much for your reply. Yeah, it was mentioned to us that Girdwood is one of the prettier towns, so we may well just chill there for a day or two on the day of and the day after our wedding. It's just the two of us, with one other person, so chilling in Girdwood sounds great . Maxine's seems like a hidden gem, thanks for the info on it, will definitely check it out.
