I'm planning on spending 4 weeks in Southern Africa (flying in and out of Cape Town) in September and was wondering if anyone would be able to give me any ideas about which things to do while I'm there.

I'd like to go to Namibia (though I don't know exactly what to do there) as well as doing the Okavango and Vic falls. I've heard that you can see all the big safari animals in the Delta. Is this true? Are there any companies people would be able to suggest? I'd like to see animals and scenery (desert, dunes, waterfalls, forest, canyons, etc.) and would probably want a week to relax at the end in Cape Town.

Any suggestions about anything I've mentioned would be great.

Where are you flying from? You may want a day or 2 here first to relax and rest after a potentially long journey.

September is the end of winter so beginning of spring here. Bring something for rain in Cape Town, some sweaters for the rest of the country. It won't be shorts weather but bring some anyhow, a good hat, sun glasses and sun screen.

You can do a week in Namibia and go on a great tour of the country and see dunes at Sossusvlei and game at Etosha Reserve and fit in Okavango Delta with Chameleon Safaris We used them for our honeymooon and it was great! I would recommend flying to Windhoek from here and getting them to arrange you an airport transfer. Windhoek is small and all you need there is a day really.

You can also do another week of game viewing in the Kruger National Park in the East of the country.

Do you like scuba diving - go to Kozi Bay.

The Western Cape Garden Route is very popular. Knysna and the rest are big hits with visitors.

You can fly to Vic Falls with SAA - South African Airlines

Spend a week in Cape Town and the Cape Winelands visiting Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl which are all great towns in Wine Country.

For further info on Windhoek check out Windhoek Travel Guide and for Namibia Namibia Travel Guide .

For further info Cape Town -Cape Town Guide

For tours in Cape Town - Cape Town Tours - She is my mother-in-law and will guide you all around the Western Cape if needed.

Ask away if you have any other questions and I will try to help.

After a bit of time checking out Cape Town, and maybe the Cape Winelands, then fly up to Johannesburg. There are a few budget (no frills) airlines in SA, Travel start will check all prices for the best deal.

Then onto Kruger park for wildlife sfaris, a really good one is the big 5 walking safaris getting up close on foot is a sensational experience. then drop down into swaziland which is a really beautiful little country. then follow the coast along towards Durban. On the way you've got Hluhluwe / umfolozi park, Dumazulu cultural village, Isinkwe Backpackers Bushcamp is a great place to stay, plus there is the St Lucia wetlands world heritage park.

From Durban you go up sani Pass to Lesotho or do some walking in the Drakensberg mountains, then onto the still very rural wild coast before heading back through the garden route to Cape Town

Hi,

There's so much to see in Southern Africa it's hard to limit it to a few, but here it goes:

I have to see:

1.Cango Caves, Oudthoorn, South Africa
2. Tsitsikamma Forest and Waterfalls, South Africa
3. The Delta, YES! it's a truly incredible enviro - the only real inland delta, with the most rich wildlife you will ever see!
4. the giant sand dunes of Namibia
5. Route 62 - the winelands, South Africa

<snip>

Hope that helps!

Happy journeys.

Indeed! You are right. We get a lot of spam here and some of it gets past our radar. I will snip/remove those posts now. Thank you for pointing them out. Mel.
