Eagle eyed members of travelblog will notice that a "Blog to Book" icon now appears on the control panel.

Clicking it will take you across to droptheworld.com - a company formed by two of our travel bloggers (AlanZ & TravelGoon) - specifically to allow you to create high quality books from your blog. There will be an import process - and options to edit adjust how your blogs appear before printing.

It's probably something that you'd want to use after a trip - a book to put on the coffee table and reminisce or show visitors!

How many pages, photos and what options you choose will determine the cost of the book - we believe you won't find a better option anywhere.

Stay tuned for more information - on this and on the Contest… Best of TravelBlog 2007 Book!

This is a great idea. Having some sort of physical record would have been something I'd have been looking into when we got home. The backup facility didn't really like all my photos.

Thanks a lot!

This is fantastic news, the whole concept is just pefect. I now have something to look forward to when my trip finally finishes later this year. Ohh Just in time for Christmas!

I thought it may be an idea if those ex bloggers who have fantastic blogs, but have finished travelling and have not logged on for months should be notified about this, Im sure it will be a big success.

Thank you.

Great Idea!!

A couple of questions.
1. What is the paper quality used for the pages?
2. How strong is the binding? Regrettably I have come across many books that disintegrate with normal usage.

Hey Everyone...

Thanks for all the support!

A couple of good questions were raised and I wanted to take the time to answer them.

About the paper and binding quality of the books - there is definitely no need to worry about anything being flimsy or falling apart. High-grade paper is essential for quality color and photo reproduction. We have joined with a professional printing company that serves all kinds of authors worldwide and produces books to be sold in bookstores. In no way do these books resemble anything you'd get from your local copy shop! :) So that's the short answer, but here are the details for all you curious minds:

1. What is the paper quality used for the pages?

All of our books are printed on full-color digital printing presses. We use high quality text stock for all interior pages. Both our square and landscape soft-cover books are printed on 80# Text Stock Digital color uncoated, and the hardcover books are printed on 70# Text Stock uncoated.

2. How strong is the binding?

The bindings are made to stand-up to all the normal wear and tear books go through. The soft-cover books we offer are all perfect-bound, which is to say the pages are specially glued to the binding & cover which is printed on 100# high gloss cover stock. This common binding type is used on most modern paperback books you see today. The hardcover books are Case-wrapped, similar to most modern textbooks. The pages are both glued and sewn to a binder-board (.088 inch card-board) which is then wrapped with a laminated high gloss paper.

I hope this answers the two questions raised. If anyone would like more information please visit: www.droptheworld.com/learnmore.php

or email us at info@droptheworld.com and we'll be more than happy to answer all your questions.

Thanks, Alan & Brian

Ali, where does the icon appear in the control panel? Sorry maybe i'm missing something but I don't see it. Do we have to use the blog on their site or can we link our blogs from here. This is awesome, I'm so excited to learn more!!

Hi Maya - the icon will only appear after a certain number of blogs have been added, and you've been a member for a few weeks.

There isn't much point printing a book with one blog entry ;)

Thanks Ali! I was thinking forward and dreaming of all the travel and blogging I hope to do :-) I didn't think realize it only appeared after a certain number of blogs. Do you know what that number is? Thanks for your help!

It's a little complex - there is a trust system in travelblog based on number of blogs, photos, forum posts, length of membership - the icon appears when you have a trust of 2 or more - you currently have 1.7 - so soon!

On the subject of photographs. Is there any preferred file format eg jpg, tiff etc for the printing of photographs?
