around the circle laurent Post Count: 3 Msg: #1 132 days ago, April 28th 2008 | Hi everyone, | My grilfriend and I would like to have informations about rajastan. We don't have any choice in our periode for holiday and we must travel during summer. India attracts us since a long time. Does someone go in North India during this period and have some information to reassure us and confort us to go and discover this country? Thanks a lot for your answers. Laurent Debtravel Debbie Cooper Post Count: 159 Msg: #2 131 days ago, April 29th 2008 | I went to Rajasthan during March 07, so I'm not sure what the weather's like in July and August - still I think India is worth visiting anytime! | Rajasthan is beautiful and an amazing state. Also there is nothing to worry about when travelling in India - I was there for 6 months as a woman on my own and it was great! It's just a bit chaotic but once you are used to that, it's no problem. In Rajasthan I visited Jaipur, Pushkar, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Bikaner - it's very easy to get from place to place, if you go to travel agents you can book a bus where you get an allocated seat. Also most hotels and guest houses can book bus tickets for you, so it's really easy. My favourite places were Jodhpur, Udaipur and Jaipur - people may tell you Jaipur is just a big noisy city but it has 2 beautiful forts and the old pink city is lovely. There are lots of banks and ATM's in Jaipur and some of it is quite modern. Other places like Jaisalmer and Bikaner also have ATM's and maybe Jodhpur too (i can't remember) - but it's always easy to change money, money changers are everywhere. I stayed at the Evergreen guest house in Jaipur which is nice, has a big courtyard with a garden in the middle and a good cafe (it's in Lonely Planet). some of the rooms have air-con and tv's and it's still cheap, it depends what you're looking for. Just be a little careful in Jaipur as some people (not me) have had a bit of trouble with tourist scams regarding jewellery - but just use your common sense and you'll be fine. I didn't like Pushkar so much only because it's very touristy, and has been ruined a bit, but has its beauty. Jodhpur is a must-see! It's very easy to find accommodation anywhere, normally you can just arrive and the rickshaw drivers already know places to take you. But you can also book ahead if you want and just tell the rickshaw driver where you want to go. some places have fixed prices, others you can bargain. India has so many travellers, that the whole country provides well for travellers - it will be much more easy than you think, trust me! also enjoy the food!!! don't worry about getting ill, just be sensible, drink bottled water, eat in places where Indians eat (these are always really good and cheap) and the street food is fine as long as you see it while it is being cooked. Just have a great time! If you need any more info about Rajasthan that you can think of, I'll try and help - but you'll love it, I promise! around the circle laurent Post Count: 3 Msg: #3 130 days ago, April 30th 2008 | Hi, | thank you for answer! It is of great interest. You seemed to have made a greatful travel. We are now decided to go to India this summer. We bought the lonely planet and noticed your middle cafe in Jaipur. We will program our trip very soon and if necessary I will probably contact you again to have more details. Sincerely yours Laurent travellersoul Swar Shah Post Count: 58 Msg: #4 129 days ago, May 1st 2008 | Hi Laurent, | Make sure you are prepared for a really hot summer. Rajasthan & Delhi can get really hot (45 degree Celsius) in summer. However, it will be an end of summer... so could be less.. North India will be really nice (specially area near Himalaya Mountain range).. Try to get on some desert-safari (especially camel safari) while in Rajasthan... Jaisalmer is famous for it's desert sand-dunes.. A lot of cities have been westernized.. and will provide you similar facilities as anywhere else in the world (hotels, banks, airports, etc.); however, they still have maintained their cultural beauty .. Rajasthan is really famous for it's forts, palaces, and the desert. So, it will be quite easy to find places to stay, eat, visit,... and still a totally different experience! Let me know if you have any other questions... vraj vijay yadav Post Count: 6 Msg: #5 125 days ago, May 4th 2008 | Dear Laurent, | Its pleasure to know that you are going to India. I am from India and used to escort tourist groups from Europe during my graduation. I will suggest, you must visit Rajsthan even in this period because it is the period of monsoon in India. It will be wonderful to see the green desert during this period. i would like to suggest you the programme according to the time that you want to spend in India. If need help or suggestions ........please contact me Debtravel Debbie Cooper Post Count: 159 Msg: #8 124 days ago, May 5th 2008 | you'll be busy in 3 weeks but you should definitely consider visiting Amritsar - the golden temple is amazing and you can stay in the temple complex in the foreigners dormitory, it's just a donation you have to give and you get free meals too. You can get there from Bikaner in Rajasthan ( a few hours from Jaisalmer) - there is an overnight train up to Jalandhar and from there change trains to Amritsar. Bikaner is good to visit as there is the famous 'rat' temple not far from there at Deshnok | Number of Users: 4 | Number of Posts: 8 | ||||||||||||||||
