 Sr reel Adam Reel Post Count: 1 Msg: #1 96 days ago, April 21st 2008 | Hey guys im trying to get the working holliday visa and I have a few questions. | How much money do you think I should bring in us dollars to NZ, I do plan on working out there but I also plan on hiking and camping alot. How hard is it to find work out there? I was planing on buying a cheap used car to travel around with, where would be a good place to buy a cheap but reliable car? I am an adrenaline junkie, ive looked into the bungie jumping and the fly by wire thing and I will probably do both of those but what other heart pounding adventure can i have here. There is a lot of farm / orchard work available, and of course bar / restaurant work. If you have the time / money, move around a bit before picking somewhere to work. Find somewhere you like and are happy to stay in for a month or two. Check out backpacker forums and notice boards, www.backpackerboard.co.nz is one that comes to mind. Also noticeboards in backpackers once you get here. | Money - how much? Some cash, but also credit cards / ATM cards. Its not worth bringing all your savings in cash, unless you can open a back account when you are here. Use plastic to get money out. Sure there'll be fees, but thats better than losing the lot. Cars - Auckland has plenty of used car markets, some targeted at backpackers. Hostel noticeboards again are a good place. Smaller towns / cities out of Auckland also have used car places, and these might be a bit cheaper. Depends on what and where again. Dont rush into anything, get the car checked if you are not mechanically minded. Diving is great here, especially near us at the Poor Knight Islands. Other adrenaline junkie experiences - name it and you can probably do it somewhere in NZ.
