| Gokyo & EBC trek: do you need guides and porters? | ||||||||||||||||||
A J T Alex Thomas Post Count: 1 Msg: #1 104 days ago, April 13th 2008 | Hello, | We’re planning to spend November in Nepal to go trekking. We are looking at doing the Gokyo and Everest Base Camp trek, flying into/out of Lukla. We are experienced walkers, and fairly experienced travellers: do you think we will need a guide/porters to do this trek? (we are planning to stay in tea houses on route). I’ve seen numerous postings saying the Annapurna treks are fine without porterage/guides (one of our party has already done this), but can this be applied to this longer, higher trek also? Any advise most gratefully appreciated! Thanks, Alex. incredibletrekker Raj Tamang Post Count: 1 Msg: #2 53 days ago, June 2nd 2008 | Dear Alex, | The Himalaya is different with the altitude. It is best to go with a reputable company, incase one of you need to be evacuated by helicopter. The helicopter companies need reassuarance of payment, they do not know you. Yo can have a wonderful trek on your own but the inside knowledge of a great trek leader can make the additional experience of seeing things through the eye of a local. Please be aware the trekking guides, sometimmes are just someone who can show the way, know some basic English, most probably be a wonderful person but of not much help in case of emergency. boundlesstrekker Liz Cameron Post Count: 1 Msg: #3 53 days ago, June 2nd 2008 | My boyfriend and i went on a Everest trek in October 2007 with Responsible Adventures. Their service and staff was excellent. The scenery was so beautful that we got engaged to be married ths October. We saw trekkers booked with other tour operators from the U.K and the U.S but the treament and food we got was far superior. Although we stay in the lodges there, our leader Raj Tamang, went into the kitchen and prepared meals that were not on the menu. We would like to recommend future holiday maker to the himalayas to book with Responsible Adventures thier website is www.notjusttreks.com | Liz Cameron Number of Users: 3 | Number of Posts: 3 | |||||||||||
