Hey everyone,

I’m a 19 yr old student from Ireland and my 4 buddies (same age) and I have planned a 2 week break to Marseilles from June 14th-28th. As we are students we aren’t made of money, but on the other hand we are very social aka love going out to pubs and clubs. It’s a while away yet but we have no idea basically of what we are going to do! If anyone has any knowledge of Marseilles would you please respond with as many ideas as possible to what we can do both day and night (money is no restriction but nothing way too dear). We have almost 15 days there so we need to fill that gap, plus we will we most likely have bikes as we are fit as fiddles and will be camping.

hey jamesieseamus
If you go on this site you can find people who live there and you can hang out with - they can show you the sites that you perhaps would miss being a tourist.

Hi Jamie! I am living in Marseille at the moment and i can tell you, that if you like the mediterranean, nature and outdoor activities, that's the place to be! Here some things you can do without any money:
- going to the Calanques hiking (most beautiful place I know!)
- sightseeing @ Marseille (Notre Dame de la Garde, Pharo, Parc Borély, Palais Longchamp, Vieux Port...)
- there are some pubs at the Vieux Port, which are for free!
- if you like Salsa Dancing, there's a great club at Cour Julien, which is for free
- hang out at the beaches or go out for a Picknick to the Calanques (bus 21 to Luminy and then go down to the water)
- take the buses to Aix-en-Provence (10€ return ticket) or Nice (30€ return ticket), take a train to Arles (20€ return)
- avoid the expensive "Grands Surfaces" and look for discounters like Lidl and Aldi, as living expenses are pretty high in Marseille

Hope that helps!

PS Don't forget to bring sun cream and a hat to protect you from the sun! Everybody coming here for the first time underestimates the sun!

Hello James :)

If you are going there in Summer time you can lie on the beach. There is a hostel near where the beaches are.
I cant remember what the name of the hostel is. If you google hostels, Marseilles it might say which one is near the beaches.
