Check your pricing online before you go. Make a list of the products you intend to purchase, and write down the cheapest 3 prices you can find for each product from online sources like eBay.

- Take the list with you and make sure you are getting at least as good as these prices. More than likely, you should do better. This will do wonders for you! It's easy to get confused in the excitement of haggling for the deal of a lifetime, with currency exhanges etc.

- Take a device that has a calculator so you can work out the exhange of HK$ to your local currency.

- As for locations to shop, I unfortuantely am not sure. However, if you do your homework and check out prices before you go, it doesn't matter where you buy the stuff, you'll know the good prices when you see/haggle them.

- Get a receipt and a business card with the stores address. If there is any problems with the product, you can send it back for repair.

I know this is a little off-topic, but I hope it helps anyhow

The most hones guys are Fortress...everything else, you need to be really sure of the model and price. Never been able to beat the guys at fortress....as it's a massive chain and they have fixed price. Enjoy!

Best area to shop is at Mong Kok on the street called Sai Yeung Choi Street South (East of and parallel to Nathan Road) and the area around Argyle Street. Fortress are a good store, everything they sell is legitimate and you may be able to negotiate a little if buying more than one item. However, other stores in the area may also be prepared to do a deal on a price - that is especially true in Mong Kok as competition is so fierce.

Also agree with the Internet price check beforehand - it is a great idea to know what price you should be heading for.

I used to live in hong Kong for a few months - Fortress and other big chain stores are good because they are reputable. Make sure you get a reciept that covers your country at home. You can find cheap goods in Mon Kok but it can be very dodgy. You wont get a guarantee and people (especially tourists) get ripped off. I bought a Nintendo DS Lite from Mon Kok and it was fine - however I bought it because it was only about £80 and so not too much money to lose. I bought a mobile from the cheapest place in mon kok - its near macdonalds on the main road (cant remember the name im afraid) but if you ask, people will tell u. It slike an indoor market full of mobile phones etc. My mobile had something wrong with it so all I would say is be careful. as for laptops - I wouldnt buy from a dodgy market stall you haggle at - personally i thinks its too much money to risk. The chain stores are mor eexpensive but still much cheaper then home - you tend to get more accessories and its tax free! I bought a great camara with loads of accessories for about £90 - about £40 cheaper than home. I got an international guarantee and its great!

So Mon Kok probably is the area to go for cheap bargains - I have also heard of a computer centre in causeway Bay but I think its the same kind of thing. However, be careful and you have to decide if its worth the risk. If not - try fortress or Broadway.
