Traveler8881448 Brittany Olson Post Count: 4 Msg: #1 127 days ago, March 20th 2008 | I am planning a trip to Quito and was wondering if it was worth it to go to Mindo and do the Zip-Lining, and if I should plan on staying there for the night or is it okay to come back the same day. Also is there anything else that I should plan on doing in Mindo | Katm1987 Katherine Matson Post Count: 78 Msg: #2 127 days ago, March 20th 2008 | I went to Mindo for a couple of days and did the zip-wiring - it's a lot of fun! Also did tubing and there's horse riding, butterfly/orchid farms, nearby waterfalls and other stuff to do if you wanted to stay for a few days. Takes a couple of hours to get there from Quito so it might be an idea to stay over - there's loads of hostals in Mindo (just no ATMs so make sure you take enough money with you.) There's some photos of the zip-wiring on my blog Don't fall off the doughnut! if you want an idea of what it's like. Have fun! xx | Stephanie and Andras Stephanie and Andras Post Count: 50 Msg: #3 126 days ago, March 21st 2008 | Hi Brittany. Welcome to Travelblog! I can't think of anything you ought to do more in Mindo than just relax! It's a beautiful area, worth going if only to provide a contrast to the busy streets of Quito. Most of the main activities are mentioned above, but you can also just go for a hike/walk up into the forest (which I strongly recommend) or meet the locals at one of the restaurants/bars. Zip-lining is quite an adventure and offers some breath-taking views. Couple words of advice if you go: there was some insect in Mindo completely un-phased by DEET that left bite-marks for days, so take a combination bug-repellent (aka: the cheaper stuff) which worked for everyone else and don't forget a hair-tie if you have long hair. For photos of the cloudforest (and an explanation of why you definitely need to tie back your hair) my blog from that area is here It's a bird, it's a plane....
