I do think lazio is a bit underestimated compared to other italian regions. i've been there last year and was pretty cool. you know pretty genuine, low prices, few tourist around but all the variety you can get from italy, mountains history sea etc Btw in my search for new places i just bumped into this website. It is clearly still incomplete but has some useful info and very nice pictures (www.italyandyou.com)

Yes I agree with you... I used to live near Latina in a town called Sezze not far from the medieval town of Sermoneta.
The towns on the Lepini hills are very nice and well served , from Sezze for example there is a train every 50 minutes that goes to Rome and Naples.
By car you can reach the beaches of Latina (20 km) , Sabaudia, Terracina and Sperlonga. From Anzio and Terracina there is also a boat that goes to the Pontine islands (Ventotene, Ponza and Zannone) that are fantastic!
It is also true that cost of life is less expensive then in the big cities and people are still not used to see lots of tourist around but they are always kind even if sometime they do not speak english! I would recommend evryone that would like to visit Rome to go also to the south (LAtina is the main city) and live the italian life like a tourist! There are also apartments to rent which is the best solution in this area : www.villarenters.com / www.homelidays.com houses may be found by location or by weekly cost tourists would like to spend.
