WanderAndWonder Brian Searwar Post Count: 40 Msg: #1 215 days ago, March 13th 2008 | I am planning a trip to Nepal and Tibet in October/November of this year. I am wondering about the best places to stay and the travel situation around the country. 13 hours on a bus or in a car is not my idea of a holiday well spent. Also, has anyone dealt with a really good travel agent there? I read that I need an agent to allow me to get into Tibet and they would handle visas, etc. I have been exchanging emails with a couple agencies in Nepal and I am not sure if I am getting the run-around from them or not. | Thanks. Here ia copy and paste of what he said. That is funny i was just looking at travel agent stuff yesterday. I used this travel agency before from there lhasa office but they also have an office in Katmandu: http://www.tibetfit.com/ The the travel agency is Tibetan owned and pretty cool. The big thing is he will have to arrange a group permit, although it can be a group of one. Make sure he gets the right kind of visa if he wants to continue into mainland china. If he does i would recommend him getting the Chinese visa separately, maybe even in his home country before going to Nepal (most Chinese tourist visas are good for three months after they are issued). When he gets the visa DO NOT MENTION that he is planning on going to Tibet. Then arranging the Tibet stuff in Nepal, so he has a normal Chinese visa and not a special one. The situation with Tibet can change overnight. There were some big protests in March so right now it has gotten tight again. But i think they will want to be open for the olympics (foreign money is just to tempting). A lot depends about how much protesting is going on during the olympics. I would tell him to have a back up plan. Maybe get a Chinese visa and if the TAR is closed then catch a flight to Chengdu and check out some of the Tibetan areas in Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu and Yunnan. The web site looks amazing so if you haven't already organised a tour I would give him a go (just tell him you know simon gale and he might give you a discount) Simon WanderAndWonder Brian Searwar Post Count: 40 Msg: #5 192 days ago, April 5th 2008 | Hi there, | As mentioned in various posts, the situation in Tibet right now is bit iffy. I am planning on being in Kathmandu prior to Tibet and then return to Kathmandu and Delhi. I'll try the link you sent and see how things go. Thanks for the information. Has anyone heard about people getting in/out of Tibet recently, say in the last 2 or 3 weeks? Brian. Number of Users: 3 | Number of Posts: 5 | |||||||||||||
