I am currently living in Australia but am moving to London indefinitely to live/work/travel. I have been told by friends to leave Australia on my Australian passport but when I arrive in London arrive using my British passport. However when I asked my travel agent he said I have to leave Australia and arrive in London on my Australian passport only. Does anyone know anything about this?? Or know of websites that outline the rules?? I've searched myself but cannot find a difinitive answer on any government website and I'm a little reluctant to call an embassy as it's just so expensive. Thank you for any assistance!!!! I have dual citizenship (Aus/NZ) and last time I renewed my Australian passport I was told that Australian authorities expect Australian citizens to arrive and leave Australia using the Australian passport, regardless of any dual citizenship. That said, I have travelled to Australia on my NZ passport more than once with no problems. Just looking through chat forums on the subject (Googled the topic), most people seem to use the passport of the country they are entering/leaving as a means of speeding up immigration processing. Given you are moving to London for work purposes, I would definitely be using the British passport on arrival. The last post is correct, use your aussie passport to leave/return to aus and the same for the uk.Coming into the uk on your british passport not only saves time at immigration but also allows you to work/live here. You cant work here on your aussie passport alone. You would need a working visa aswell. Also some countries such as saudi arabia dont recognise duel citizenship. In fact i think you could be detained/arrested,so best read up on where your going. Apart from that, safe travels!! bec283 Rebecca Day Post Count: 3 Msg: #4 241 days ago, February 15th 2008 | Thanks for the information!!!!! | That is what I thought (whatever you leave on you must return on the same). However my travel agent said I couldn't leave Australia with my Australian passport and use my UK passport on arrival at London. I had to use the Australian passport on both ends of my trip. I was going to leave Australia on my Australian but arrive in London on my British (to save time at immigration and because I plan on working in the UK). I do have a stop over in Abu Dhabi (in the United Arab Emirates) for 3 hours but I don't have to re-check in or anything - does that affect my travels?? jabz jarrod Post Count: 4 Msg: #5 240 days ago, February 15th 2008 | Im not sure........ | I think it would be best to ask the consulate, just in case. Do you need a transit visa to go through Abu Dhabi??I know i needed one to go through China. bec283 Rebecca Day Post Count: 3 Msg: #6 240 days ago, February 15th 2008 | Thanks for all your help. I'm looking on the smarttraveller website now and that seems to be really informative. I'll be contacting the UK Consulate in Australia before I take off (to be safe). | Seriously - thank you for all your help. I'm a bit of a research freak and was embarassed that I could not find a definitive answer on my question. Good luck in all your travels!!!!!!!!! Best wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
