I remember sitting at the French cafe up on the cliffs there with checkered table cloths and geraniums on the window sills on a warm South of France September day. It was so nice sitting there with a coffee looking out at the sea. But I can imagine that the Count of Monte Cristo did not notice how romantic the place is. :D BTW, does anyone know if the Count of Monte Cristo really existed or is he totally fictional? Happy Valentines! A beautiful sunset. Weather just right - not too cold, not too warm. Your partner and you holding hands, joking around, waiting for the sun to go down... he goes, "hey listen to this", and he promptly gives you his earphones so you can listen to the song playing on his ipod..and then it goes"...if i give my heart to you I must be sure..." The Beatles! It was one of the best dates I've ever had. Beatles love song. An amazing sunset. My boyfriend :) Sometimes it's the small gestures that really count. By the way, according to Wiki (and I hope it's okay to post it here..) "Though no proof has been issued over the years, some believe that Dumas got the idea for The Count of Monte Cristo from a similar, though factually different story which he found in a book compiled by Jacques Peuchet, French police archivist. Though none of the works of Jacques Peuchet were published till after his death, a similar story based on records gathered from his days in police service, was later published under his name.[2] Peuchet related the tale of a shoemaker named Pierre Picaud, who was living in Nimes in 1807. Picaud had been engaged to marry a rich woman, but three jealous friends falsely accused him of being a spy for England. He was imprisoned for seven years. During his imprisonment a dying fellow prisoner bequeathed him a treasure hidden in Milan. When Picaud was released in 1814, he took possession of the treasure, returned under another name to Paris and spent ten years plotting his successful revenge against his former friend" [Edited: 18:31 - saharanights - had to add something] Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 3636 Msg: #4 207 days ago, February 13th 2008 | Thanks for that explanation Saharanights. :) | Yeah, it is OK to post that here so long as u state where it comes from, with a URL. One place I would consider very romantic: at the very end of the day, when sun has come down but it's not dark yet, just a pink and clear blue and violet sky, with some boats on the horizont, in the bay of Palma de Mallorca - I know, it's quite a busy place, but we found this place, near Illetas (west side of the bay) - at the end of a peninsula. You're standing on one end of the island, the sea is one both sides but with different colors.... Amazing! It's especially romantic if they're strong enough to hear them. I remember walking home from university (in Edmonton) one night in the winter, and there were some powerful northern lights (I could hear them). I stopped to watch them streak across the sky, over the downtown skyline and the river valley. Too bad I didn't have a date to share the experience with! | nuhart59 G.
