I plan to go to Sweden for holiday on end of this year but have really tight budget.

Can somebody give some suggestions on airlines that could provide the cheapest rate in Sweden if i fly from Malaysia?
Any direct flight airlines? If no, normally which are the best route for plane transfer?

suggestions on economy but acceptable accommodation.

Sept to Jan ....will it be very very cold? how many degrees.
Any interesting places to visit/activities during winter? or it is a dormant season? Reply to this

Haha! I am from Sweden now living in Zhuhai China... I think that Winter time is the wrong season... Even if you want to go snowboarding or skiing you are better off going to the Alps!

But if you do decide to go and cannot wait until the spring-summer time I would recommend you fly either via Germany, Holland or England. Try Kayak.com and see what fares you can get!

If you have any more questions feel free... Good luck! Reply to this

I cannot give you any recommendations on which airline to choose, since you can most likely find the best deals by checking your local travel agents and airline sites. Look for special offers from the various airlines and alliances, there are no direct flights between Stockholm and KL as far as I know anyway. Pick any big airline and transfer in one of the big airports along the route (anything from Singapore, Bangkok or Dubai to Vienna, Frankfurt, Helsinki or Copenhagen, the list goes on and on).

Many Swedes travel abroad during xmas and new year's (especially to Thailand) so if you plan on visiting at this time the flights will be crowded and overbooked well in advance. Schools close for a week in February which coincides with the downhill skiing peak season. There might be plenty of snow available for downhill skiing or it might not, the weather shifts from rainy and mild to freezing cold and snow chaos. In general September is a beautiful autumn month with clear blue skies and coloured trees (or dull grey rainy days), October is dark and rainy (unless we get early snow) and November is so dark and depressing that most Swedes don't even see any daylight when they commute to and from work. By December snow will generally start to fall in most areas, and all the xmas decorations light up the darkened cities a bit. Temperature shifts wildly dependant on location and season, autumn can offer the occasional 15-20 C day, and winter can creep down to -20 C although it will usually hover around 0 C.

Interesting places is entirely up to you, but be aware that many tourist services will be limited or closed down during the winter, castles may be closed etc. On the other hand the ski resorts up north will be bustling with activity. As for availability of "cheap" accommodation, it varies with season and region. The same money you get a nice Bangkok hotel room for won't even pay for a hostel bunk. Hotels usually offer special prices only in the summer months of July-August, since they can rely on business travellers for the rest of the year. Reply to this

You can fly direct to Stockholm with Malaysia Airlines. Winter time used to be cold but this winter has been very strange. No snow in Stockholm yet and winter is soon over.

Sweden is very expensive. A Big Mac Meal cost 27RM and a 24h ticket going with the subway, buss cost 50RM. If you want to see winter life go up north. Åre is a nice skicenter and has a great nightlife. Reply to this
