| I have an overnight layover in Amman. Have to exit the airport. | |||||||||||||||||||||
MCasper Elizabeth Smolinski Post Count: 4 Msg: #1 229 days ago, December 9th 2007 | I was told that I have to exit the airport in Amman because the layover for my flight to Chicago is 12 hours. I was also told that since I have a single entry visa, I will have to leave my passport with immigration and pick it up before my flight the next morning. Has anyone ever had to go through this procedure? A person at G3 Visas gave me this information, but other people I have asked think it sounds sketchy. Any answers? | Thanks, Elizabeth Smolinski The Travel Camel Shane Dallas Post Count: 156 Msg: #2 228 days ago, December 10th 2007 | I was in Jordan in 2002 and arrived at Amman airport. Even though I too had a single entry visa, I definitely did not need leave my passport at the airport. Not sure if things have changed since then, but I doubt it. The reason being is that many accommodation places require you to enter your passport and visa number upon check-in - something very difficult if it is still sitting at the airport. | If I remember correctly, a single entry visa lasts for 30 days, but a 7 day transit can be issued on arrival - but it depends on your nationality. Information on the different visas can be found on the Jordanian Embassy website. MCasper Elizabeth Smolinski Post Count: 4 Msg: #3 119 days ago, March 28th 2008 | Thank you. I guess the operative word here is "Transit". The airline didn't tell me that you have to let the immigration people know that you are a transit customer. I tried to explain that I was only staying in Amman for 12 hours until my flight back to Chicago, but the immigration people said I had to buy a new visa (10 dinar). When I got back to the airport in the morning, I was also misdirected to the wrong line, again, because I didn't say "Transit" when I arrived. It was a mess at Queen Alia. Anyway, that was a minor irritation, and my trip to Jordan was fabulous!! | Madham m.
