Go to www.mappy.com, it gives really good directions and includes toll prices and average petrol costs. Ofcourse, if you stay off the autoroutes it'll be cheaper. Good luck!

40 sFr is the cost of a vignette sticker which allows you to drive on all autoroutes in Switzerland. Thats just £19.82 pence and it is valid for ONE YEAR! If you have ever driven the French autoroutes you will know that you can easily knock that amount up in toll fees in ONE DAY....never mind an entire year! I was paying this charge over ten years ago. Unlike Britain, Switzerland does not keep banging taxes up through the roof and penalising motorists.

A tip for anyone from the UK driving to Switzerland (i used to drive regularly from the UK to Bern), never ever use the French Autoroutes....far too costly. Take a route through Belgium (yes the dual carriageways can be a bit rough in places....but it's ALL TOLL FREE!) and down into Luxembourg.

Petrol and Diesel in Switzerland is currently at between 75-80 pence per litre which makes what was once an expensive country for a 'brit' to holiday, now one of the cheapest in Europe......cheaper even than taking a holiday in our own damn country!

I totally agree with Bulletguy - the only thing he didn't mention is that you stop in Luxembourg city and fill up with cheap fuel. For an idea of price comparison check this site:
Petrol and diesel prices in Italy

If you're in eastern Switerzland, then a quick trip into Austria for cheap fuel may be worthwhile!

Yes....forgot that!

Not only cheap fuel but for those who smoke, cheap cigarettes and tobacco. But then almost everything is cheaper outside the UK now!
