hi everyone,

I'm planning on getting an around the world ticket and I'm looking for suggestions on where to visit.

For your knowledge:

I'm from the States and I've been living in Japan for almost 3 years so these 2 aren't up for consideration

I've been to China, South Korea and the Philippines as well so...

I'm open to visiting anywhere and everywhere but I'm especially looking forward to Europe and Africa as well as South America -- so while I want all the suggestions you can think of....one's in those areas would be greatly appreciated.

-thanks

When do you plan to leave?

How long would your ticket be valid for?

Are there any restrictions - such as no back-tracking, no south-america?

Will you end up back in Japan?

I'm sure there are lots of suggestions coming...

Hi hAppy wanderer,

Welcome to TravelBlog :-)

I would say definitely go to South America, but then I wish I'd seen more of Europe than I have, and would love to go to Africa too.

Do you generally prefer to see lots of a smaller number of countries, or pass through quickly for the sake of going to a greater number of countries?

Do any of the RTW tickets allow for gaps of overland travel with departure from a different country within the same continent?

hey all, thanks for the replies and the questions--

i'm hoping to end up back in the States though I'm flexible, the ticket is good for up to a year, you can pretty much go wherever, no restrictions and while you have to leave from the same country you are giving free stop-overs in other countries along the way and you can choose how many days to stay there. ie. Going from Tokyo to say, Mumbai, I could get a free stop-over in Malaysia if i took that option and stay there for a few days...so the countries i'd rather just pass through quickly i can do that.

I want to see as much as i can but also stay in a few places for a while. I am up for anything and anywhere...let me know what ideas you have...

p.s i graduate at the end of march so itll be sometime around then that i take off

I can recommend the Inca Trail/Machu Picchu - and the rainy season ends late March, early April.

That sounds nice...living in Japan I've had about enough of the rainy season and can't wait to get away from it!!!
Is the Inca trail long? Hours or days? and if it's days...are you allowed to camp? would you want to?

sorry but i dont know a lot about south america

Since restrictions were put in place a few years ago, you can now only do the Inca Trail with a registered company. Most do a four day trip, camping each night along the way - but some I think from memory do longer treks, starting elsewhere and then joining the traditional Inca trail. I went with Peru Treks and Adventure and was very happy with the service. Google something like 'Inca trail tour company' to find a few more options.

HappyWanderer,

Africa is a definite MUST.
Kenya, Namibia, S. Africa.....

I've come across this website - www.unmappedafrica.com. It seems to be under constant updates, but its got lots of interesting places never mentioned in the usual travel guides.....Personally, I'll have to check out some of their destinations....
