I have recently discovered Skype, an Internet-based telephone system similar to Jangl mentioned above. Thing is with Skype, I have been amazed at how many internet cafes have the software installed.

It's user friendly, and you add credit to an account with your debit card or Paypal. Calls to a landline can be as little as a penny a minute, and mobile calls cost about 15 pence (7 cents) a minute.

Most places with have headsets, but you can buy a small set of headphones similar to those that people us with mobile phones. Takes up no room in your backpack.

Hi Ali,

great job, and its form makes it flexible and ever-expanding (and probably somewhat stressing for the author... good luck!). Just to let you know, there is a whole way of travelling that is often forgotten: sail the world. There are really hundreds of boats willing and able to embark crew, going between any ports around the planet... Australia to India, France to Brazil, USA to Papeete, and so on... I personally welcomed many backpackers and sailed them around 3 continents and all the water in between. It's usually very cheap (we are talking 10 € a day), very rewarding (although often fatiguing), and I definitely think many of the bloggers can be interested.

The Ocean is out there, wind is free and sailboats leave no carbon footprint, and sailors are an intriguing bunch. I wrote about the subject in some magazines (http://www.armstronglobal.com/cadeau%20site/Tales/crew.html) and I am willing to write down some clues if you are interested. Let me know.

Hi Ali,
Despite having done a fair few trips in my life and I agree with Mark, sailing is an awsomw way to travel, I have to say your guide was well thought out. It was nice to read it and see if I'd forgotten anything. One type of traveller you forgot, although I wonder how many people out there are doing it, is people travelling with their kids. Personally I'm a single mum and thought I'd take my daughter around the world before she has to start school at the absurdly young age of 4 years and four days. Although, in my head I'm already wondering how I can take her out of school for a year when she's a bit older (and home school her on our travels)

Hey Ali,

The Travel Guide is great.

However, the travel insurance company you recommend will not insure anyone over 61. Bummer!

G'day Ali

I have travelled a bit, but still research to death any info I can get particularly prior to travelling to a new place. I have gained so much info from this site that I feel I am as prepared as I can be without feeling the heat.

My friends and family can travel with me saving the cost and need to phone regularly during the month long trip.

Thanks to all other bloggers too as your information has shaped my upcoming trip to Vietnam.

Onya

Choosing a place for a holiday has never been easy for avid travelers and vacationers. This is as true for a family vacation as is for a group vacation. Most of us want to make the most of our vacations. Some of us look for adventure whereas others prefer a place which has lot of scenic beauty. Some like to holiday at a place which has some history behind it coupled with some fun and frolic.
