Hi Everybody!

I am planning on going to China in around October of this year and just needed a few pointers on a couple of different things. Firstly, any ideas on a good itinierary would be appreciated. I am going to go there for about three weeks with one of my mates and would like to visit a few places, but would like to have a good chance to look around the ones that I do go to. I really don\'t want to do an organised tour, as I have done one of these before and although I did like it, I think that half the fun of going to another country is the challenge of doing things by yourself. I do not, however, speak one word of Chinese...would this be a massive problem if doing things independently?

I also need some advice on train travel in China. Is it possible and time efficient enough to do big trips between destinations on the trains? Also, are they reliable and cost effective?

Any advice would be much appreciated...I am thoroughly looking forward to going to China as it is a place that has always fascinated me.

Hey azam, I recommend you watch a documentary by Paul Merton’s trip to China, a brit comedian.
You will find it very interesting and funny.

hi,welcome to visit China.
Oct.is the busy month in China. All people have 7days holiday from Oct 1st to 7th.More people do travelling than usual. If you can avoid these seven days it will be better.
Places in China i recommand to visit are:Lijiang in Yunnan province,Yangshuo,Guilin in guangxi province, sichuan province, beijing, tibet. They are all beautiful places with special characteristics.I live in Guilin city.If you come to Guilin,we can meet up for some time :)i can take you to try Guilin famous Guilin mifen.Since you have three weeks,it's a little rush for you to finish all these places.Travel by train is a good choice.it's convenient and safe.going between provinces by train is a little slow,it will takes about 10 hours to 20 hours.it depends on where u r going.
There are many foreign backpackers travel to China every year. They do not join groups but have a very free and good time.they also dont know any chinese language.I live in guilin and have met many girls boys travel to China alone.of course you can too.
in case you need more information you can send me email i will reply your questions.i'm chinese ,working in international trading company.and live in a tourism city so i know some knowledges about traveling in China.Have a great trip to <snip>
