four thousand is an incredibly small research pool for a global survey. Reply to this

I was in Ayr back in April and, although the coastline nearby was quite nice, I certainly wouldn't class it as a 'top 10' destination. I would have thought somewhere like Dubrovnik would be on the list.

I think 4,000 is not enough too.. but what makes the list interesting is the fact that it swayed from the usual travel itineraries. Reply to this

All what it shows is that Tripadvisor's "opinions" are mostly bogus. The "top destinations" have the most active SEO teams, ready to post bogus opinions on Tripadvisor. It is very easy to do so, and many second-rank hotels with clever IT staff have already taken advantage of it. Consumers like myself have fallen into this trap... but only once, the first and the last time. Reply to this

Hmmm ... I do have 2 of these in my list for the next couple of months so ... does that make me just one of the pack? Reply to this

Tripadvisor is owned by Expedia.com Do not believe what is on their website. Their tag logo "get the truth...then go" is false. The truth, in reality, is "learn what we want you to know then go". I know this first hand and my Congressman actually filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission questioning their website. My son died tragically in Cancun last year and I tried to post some safety concerns, every time, the post was removed by TripAdvisor. I have spoken to many other families that have had tragic events happen to them while on vacation (Mexico) they too tried to post on TripAdvisor only to have their posts removed. There is a disclaimer on their site, "we have the right to remove any post for any reason" and they do. To learn the truth about vacation safety, do NOT rely on their website. www.mexicovacationawareness.com has many links to both Government websites and other reliable sources for the real truth. I treat trip advisor as the "upper class" opinion on travel...... most have far more money to spend on places than I ever do! Therefore I have always taken their opinions lightly ..whoever "they" are!

BUT I can't say any of those places are on my list!

Trip Advisor is damaging to everyone involved. Anyone can write a negative review-especially competing businesses. We have seen places we have stayed that have been given really bad reviews and we know these are false. One of the places told us that TA even placed a comment on the site that this business is interfering in their rating system by manipulating reviews. Are they kidding? Don't they know what businesses will do to each other to get the guests? I think that TA needs to be taken down and be held accountable for the damage they are causing on both sides of the fence. I gave up trying to weed through all the minutia. I've been burned by Trip Advisor...wonderul, glowing reviews...not such a glowing place. I guess they have many friends who write reviews.

I read that someone's congressman had contacted the Federal Trade Commission-what a good idea-maybe we should all do that-afterall, isn't Trip Advisor doing business without knowing if what they print is true-and if they don't know it is actually false-aren't they legally bound to find out? They are accepting money from advertisers and they own this site so they are (even if they try to deny it) in actuality, publishing.

Enough already-get rid of Trip Advisor---DON"T USE IT! Reply to this

Thank you "BE SAFE". I also filed a compaint with FTC. I suggest business owners as well as consumers file to complain about TA and their treatment of users on both sides.

What I don't like is their use of the reviews to make a rating system...which is based on unverified or unsubstantiated reviews. Doesn't that make them responsible and liable?

I also know for a fact that they censor postings on both sides. Reviewers can stay anonymous which just breeds deviousness. I have written reviews about cruises and used my name because I am a real person and I had real experiences, so I have nothing to hide. The places reviewed cannot even have their business removed from the site...so TA is allowing fake reviews and businesses' hands are tied....how frustrating.

I read on another blog that a site should be started to review the guests. Wouldn't that be interesting? I know I have lots of stories! Reply to this

As an owner, I can tell you first hand that they censor postings on both sides. I have had some reviews from people that have never stayed at our hotel. My hands are tied, because they refuse to remove them. None should have that much power. I am all for starting another site for reviewing our guests. The stories that I could tell you would not only be entertaining, but some of them would turn your stomach, when I describe some of the things that people do inside our units. These are the same people that when are confronted by our management, will go to tripadvisor and post scathing reviews. TRIP ADVISOR SHOULD BE BANNED. Reply to this
