Traveling down the west coast of Turkey.

I am flying into instanbul and spending a couple of days there. After that I need to figure out the cheapest and quickest way to get down the greek isles. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Not sure if I should fly, take a boat or take a bus.

Thanks

I used to take the fast ferry from Fethiye to Rhodos for the day. I know it goes from Marmaris as well. Takes 90 minutes from Fethiye and costs about 60 pounds for the return day trip. Duty free is very cheep on Rhodos so well worth picking up cheap alcohol. I guess it depends where in Turkey you are leaving from.

Im going to do that on july!
Is it very crowded in this time of the year? Do you think that just a day in Rhodes is enough to see the highlights of it?

On Tuesdays and Thursdays there is a ferry that runs between Avalik and Mytilini (Lesvos). If I remeber correctly the cost was somewhere around 40 Euros each way and the trip is a little over an hour. The company is called Jale Lines if you are interested.

The Rhodos ferry has never been completley full when Ive been on it even in the peak of summer but the boat it's self looks ok from the outside but once you get in you realise it's designed for function, not comfort. It's very old, has about 50 coats of paint one over the other, evrything is just old. it's not uncomfortable but it could be a lot better. There is a snack bar on board for drinks etc but I always take my own lunch & drinks in a backpack, so much cheaper.
Rhodos is too big to see in one day. You dont actually spend so much time there. The Flying Posidon - ex Fethiye - gets there about 11-11.30 and you leave again at 3pm. I spent one trip exploring the old city and another exploring the town and the 4 hours was just enough both times, There are other places further afield I would like to see but that would require a car and an extra day or two.
There is also another day trip option for visa runners now, catch a bus to Kas and the ferry to Maice, another greek island. Kas is between Fethiye and Olympus.
