I hear that I would have to go through bangkok by plane. Are there direct flight? I also thought about traveling on the Mekong but I think that would mean travelling upriver and am not sure if that would work? Any suggestions would be great. I am also traveling alone and might have 2 pieces of luggage so I don't mind paying a little more for something that would be safer and more convenient. thanks! | SarahL Sarah Lockie Post Count: 2 Msg: #2 798 days ago, August 9th 2006 | Hi | This was part of my journey about 3 years ago. We went from Siem Reap to Phnom Penn by bus, (although you could do that by boat). We then took a boat from Phnom Penn up the Mekong to Strong Treng (you may have to change in Kratie) and stayed overnight there, there are plenty guest houses to stay in. The next morning we took a small boat for an hour up to the border with Laos. From there make sure you visit the 4,000 islands, particularly Don Det. I also strongly recommend Bolovens plateau and Vang Vieng. We mainly did the Lao part in sections, by bus. In summary, my advice is a mixture of boat and bus, but do not fly, as you will miss some of the best places that Laos has to offer. Enjoy! Number of Users: 2 | Number of Posts: 2 | ||||||||||
