If you have the budget, try Rovos Rail or the Blue Train. Beware, it is expensive, but admitted, they are exclusive. On the other end train travel is not up to standard. Depending on your destination, the alternatives include air or bus. Main centres are serviced by budget and national air carriers. There are very good passenger bus services that link most centres on the main highways. Try Interkaap, Translux, Baz and others. Cost effective, faster than trains and you can schedule rides during day or overnight.
