Worth a visit :- depends on what you are wanting..aiming at ?? Generally foreigners get hassled by crowd,humidity.....taxi drivers....agents etc..... Staying :- Generally backpapckers stay in Paharganj ..because its economical ..u can try other places too .....there is one YMCA hostel near Cannaught place I suggest please try that...... If you can try a bed and breakfast scheme that would be better than Paharganj...... Train journey ....I would suggest if u travel by train please take an 2 AC or 1 AC ticket as that would not cause much hassles to you...u can check out the indian railways website....... It is well connected by rail/air, and if you have time, can plan short journeys from Cochin. Try south Mumbai for a mix of everything (Colaba/Fort area). Trains from Mumbai to Goa take about 12 hours, and to Kerala another 12 (total 24 hrs). But this route has a notoriety of getting blocked in the monsoon (Jun--Aug), just enquire. Goa and Kerala both will be experiencing monsoon showers right until September. Also, you have to reserve your seats on the train prior when travelling in India well in advance (not like we have in the UK), or the trains might be booked full. Probably the same for Kerala and Goa, judging by what I have heard about them. I have not been in Kerala or Goa. I receommend that you stay in the Bentley Guesthouse in Colaba, Mumbai. As well as being in the heart of most of what the tourist likes to see, it has an excellent reputation for being good as well as good value. Book in advance, because it is often full. When you are in Mumbai, be sure to hang out at the famous Cafe Leopald. It is a favourite expats, film people and backpackers haunt. Just about everybody who visits Mumbai goes there. If the front of the Taj Mahal Intercontenintal hotel is open again, I recommend you go in and up the stairs. There you can have tea or a drink with a beautiful view of the bay. You can buy train tickets in advance on the internet from the Indian train company. The train times are convenient for it. I recommend the Shanti Lodge rooftop restaurant in Agra.
