I am in Mumbai for about 4 days before heading off to Goa end of Sept. I want to know if anyone has stayed there and could reccomend somewhere to stay. I would pay the extra to have some comfort after the long long flight.

Your help is much appriciated

Hey Chris,

Am from Mumbai & maybe could help you out. However, I'd like to know whats your budget per night & also which part of Mumbai are you planning to stay in? i.e. South Mumbai which is generally where all the tourists stay (to be close to the happening places) or somewhere near the airport?

Cheers mate!

Hello Chris Brodie

For a nice place to stay and good value too, try the Bentley Guesthouse in Colaba, Mumbai. As far as I remember rooms cost around 30 or 40 Euros per night. It is also conveniently in the area where most tourists want to be.

The Bentley has different priced rooms. They may have smaller ones for less than 30 Euros. You would need to book in advance, if you want to stay there. It is often full.

Hi Chris, if you check the map of Mumbai, you'd see Colaba towards the southern side near the sea. Like mentioned earlier, most tourists stay here. Its about 1 hour to 1.30 mins from the airport.

You will find a lot of backpackers and travelers here, so the place has restaurants serving multiple cuisines at very reasonable rates.

Colaba Causeway - you'd find hotels, restaurants, pubs and cheap places to shop here. Local transport - Cab/Bus/Auto's are very easy to find 24/7 in Mumbai, so you can easily travel all over Mumbai.

Do let us know if you have any more specific questions.

Colaba is where the Gateway to India is, the Taj Mahal Intercontinental Hotel is, Cafe Leopald, the waterfront..... The boats to Elephanta island go from there too.

Yes, South Mumbai is the happening place in Mumbai. Thats where you find a lot of the old world charm & free open spaces (relatively speaking) & of course Marine Drive (the waterfront). There is a lot of history to the place & lots of nooks & corners for all kinds of shopping. The suburbs (the newer parts of Mumbai) are not really that great. I mean, you get everything there but there's no character to the place. Lots of places to shake a leg as well in South Mumbai like Red Light (near Fountain) & Polly Esther. You'll find a lot of westerners along with other young, upwardly mobile guys n gals.

Hi Mell. I had a stay in bentley a year back, just almost at the end of the rains. Its a wonderful place to be, not because of low cost but becuse of the view, the breeze and its location. It is connectd by Curchgate Railway Station which may be 5 mins. walk. Also one can have a long walk at the pathway built next to the bay.

Over all i would recommend it to singles cause the toilets in the rooms are not attched so little difficult for families. Rest it should get 4 out of 5 stars

Thanks for the information Raj. :)

Is there a nice restaurant or cafe, in the Bentley? If so, I might go there for some peace and a nice coffee, next time I am in Mumbai.

well there are many restaurants around u cn try "Just jazz By the bay" its hardly 150 mtrs from Bentley. When u come out of the Hotel, face ur self to the bay and just start walking to ur left straight, at the main signal turn u will find it.

Also u can try " Naturals" Ice creams and shakes just 100 mtrs from bentley towards the same direction as above.

enjoy and let me know
