Hello, leaving in October for USA, Mexico, and finally Argentina where i will travel from Iguazu then follow the Andes to but not limited to just Bariloche. ( I lived in Buenos Aires for 9years and Bariloche for 2 years, up until 8 years ago.)

Today i had the brilliant idea of whilst i was going to do a lot of mountain walking in the Patagonia region, cross the Andes. I'd like to do it all by foot, but perhaps is it a better idea to hitchhike?

please any information on possible routes by foot, i am fairly fit and have a strong mind for these things so i don't mind if the route even takes two weeks to walk. I couldn't find any routes online only guided tours and roads.

Thanks a bunch!

Santiago.

You could trek across but would have to pretty much stick to the roads in order to cross at official border points. Have you considered biking? Try the crossing at Hua Hum which involves a ferry ride and is very beautiful. You could visit the Huilo Huilo reserve on the Chilean side first.
