Madrid is in central Spain, right in the middle so if you want to travel from Barcelona you travel about 500 west away from the coast. You may need to explain better what you wan to do. The coast called Costa Brava north of Barcelona is highly developed, doesn't look really attractive to me, although I have been told that there are nicer places closer to the French border. If you are interested in art there is the spectacular museum of Salvador Dali in Figueras very close to the border. There are many medieval towns in this area but they are not on the coast, Girona and Besalu are two examples. South of Barcelona is the Ebros delta, which has interesting wild life etc. but I haven't been there.

Hi Inga,thanks for the reply.

I will be leaving Barcelona and travelling south along the coast.I thought down to Malegra(?),then inland up to Madrid.

I have been told not too miss Ronda and Seville ?

Looking for interesting places to stay and eat and drink.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well you have quite many options.
You can go down till Valencia and see the beach there while enjoying the east coast, quite visited area and you will find tons of places to stay and eat good food<snip>Remember to eat Paella if you visit Valencia! :D

or if you want to go even more to the south till Malaga (I guess that's what you meant with Malegra?). If you decide to go to Andalucia don't forget to have a look at Seville of course, but specially to Cordoba. I think it's one of the most beautiful cities in the south. Not so touristic but the beauty of the streets it is quite unique.
