Amily Amily Smith Post Count: 1 Msg: #1 40 weeks ago, April 1st 2009 | I want to do some adventure hiking while traveling in China in June. Can anyone recommend some top destinations for hiking? Many thanks! | John66 John Lau Post Count: 11 Msg: #2 40 weeks ago, April 2nd 2009 | Huangshan Mountain located in Anhui province is something I can highly recommend. It’s famous for its spectacular rocks, featuring pines, hotspring and a sea of clouds. If you’re energetic and bold, you can hike all the way. The unlimited scenery in the perilous peaks worth all the trouble. There’re complete tourism facilities on the mountain but a little more expensive unavoidably. Besides the mountain, you can also wander around in the Hongcun Village where the film Crouching tiger hidden dragon was shoot. From May, the Huangshan Mountain is in the tourist seasons, so please book your accommodation in advance. | Also, there’re other places for hiking, like the Great wall, Emei Mountains, Tiger Leaping Gorge in Lijiang and so on. Hope my information is helpful. Traveler008 morgen mo Post Count: 1 Msg: #3 40 weeks ago, April 2nd 2009 | Shanghai-Yellow Mt. I have written a travelblog which gives most of the information you need. Note that this (as is Huang Shan and Hua Shan in Shaanxi also) is an organized place, with clearly signed paths, entrance fees etc. I liked Huang Shan but I found Zhangjiajie much more interesting (and it is a much bigger area). All these places suggested above are much visited by Chinese tourists so you won't be alone. For relaxed walking in beautifully landscaped parks West Lake in Hangzhou south of Shanghai is a great alternative, but I wouldn't call it adventure hiking. have a good time. | absolutechinatours Mao Yingying Post Count: 13 Msg: #5 40 weeks ago, April 3rd 2009 | Huangshan and the surrounding areas are a good choice for hiking. | [Edited: 06:08 - absolutechinatours ] Gary qu Gary qu Post Count: 4 Msg: #6 36 weeks ago, April 28th 2009 | my suggestion is that so many people there in hot spot. if you want a real hiking experience, loess plateau is a good choice. less people. and you can touch real chinese life. no hotels. only caves. but its fun actually. that is my hometown. may be i can show you around. | <snip> [Edited: 06:43 - Jo Trouble - Contact details removed. Unlike the regular Yangtze Cruise tours, you take the smaller speed boat along the river and take different hiking trips along the route in each city. You can lodge at the local hotels at the end of the day. | June is a low travel season in China so the costs are relatively cheaper and weather is very mild in June in that area as well. good v time Sole Shawn Post Count: 6 Msg: #11 28 weeks ago, June 20th 2009 | how much time do you have? and are you really strong enough to have advanture hiking? | I recommend you trek in Tibet, where the altitude is very high ,some places are above 5000, the sunlight is pretty bright. and there are less oxgen, you feel strong heartbeat when you walk, but the scenery is so amazing, and you can see a lot of sceneries and Tibetan customs you 've never seen in your life.with this map you can understand: Lhasa / Yamdrok lake / Gyantse /Shigatse, (360KM,3900M high) Shigatse / Sakya / Lhatse, 290KM Lhatse / Saga (306KM, 5-6 hours, 4600M high Saga / Paryang (255Km, 4750M high) Taking another 255km , drive from Saga to Paryang, you weave your way through small dusty town of Zhongba amidst enchanting panoramic views. Overnight at Paryang(Guest house, dorm bed). Paryang / Lake Manasarovar ( 270Km, 4560m high) Lake Manasarovar / Darchen (60km, 1.5hours, 4560m high) Manasarovara is the lake of compassion, tranquility and bliss. After completing the memorable morning Bath and Puja we will be heading towards Darchen, prepare for trekking. Trek from Darchen to Dira-puk Monastery, 20km, takes about 5 - 6hours (Camping) The first day's parikarama is a gradual walk with multitudes of other local pilgrims chanting and praying. The trail leads to few ups and downs till we reach our camp at Dirapuk (4,750 m.). Camping on the nice grassy meadows with a view of Kailash, north west face at Dirapuk for overnight halt. Trek from Dira-puk Monastery to Zutul-puk Monastery by crossing Drolma-la Pass, 15KM, takes about 6 - 7hours (Camping) Today our parikarama leads to much higher side of the holy path just beneath the Mount Kailash. The walk will bring us to one of the highest point at Drolma La, 5,200 m. before descending to the gradual field towards Zuthulphuk for the overnight camp. Zuthulphuk has a small monastery.
