Other travellers seem to be claiming their tax back from stopping work in the UK and I wondered if anyone who has done it can tell me how? They calculate your tax code based on a full year, so you may be entitled to some money back. | There is a form you should have filled in to say that you were leaving the country. You send in your P45 into the tax office with this form and they send you whatever you are owed. There are companies available who will do it for you, but we didn't need them. Since it's the end of the tax year now, the tax office MAY send you anything you are owed automatically. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. This is if you have not worked abroad since leaving. If you have then you hit double tax issues, and you may have to pay extra tax on what you have earned since leaving the UK. We will see, hopefully they will do it automatically.
