Hey all, I'm terribly sorry about posting this in this section, but i don't know really where else to post :)

Here is my dilemma:
In mid July myself and 1 other will be leaving for Spain or Morocco or both for 3 weeks. Here is the thing:
I can typically find trips for $800 Canadian(flight) round trip Barcelona.
I can typically find trips for $1400 Canadian(flight) round trip for Casablanca.
and if I combine start Barcelona and leave from Casablanca, it goes for about $1200 (flight).

I have a budget of approx $3000 total canadain (so I would have approx 1200-1300 Euro after flight cost) or 10,000 MAD (morocco) after flight.

We have to make a choice and both are very compelling...

So, with the budget constraints...what are you opinions? Can I have a good trip in Spain for that amount of money (seems really tight to me so far)? I have backpacked through China, sleeping in hostels etc... so no luxury is truly required..

Sorry that this is posted here again..

Thanks,

Al
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It is a tight budget for Barcelona. I believe, it is possible to find an accomodation with 40-45 euros per night. In restaurantas the menu of the day (Menu del Día) is usually 9-15 euros...

We wouldn't be staying in Barcelona (mabey a few days, 4 Max i think) it is really a travel thing...same for Morocco. Land at one place and move. Possibly land in Barcelona and leave from Madrid, doing the east coast going downwards probably all the way to Granada.

Thanks!

Hey Alex,
East coast is pretty easy to travel. After seeing Barcelona I would skip the other bigger towns Valencia and Alicante. But you should visit Marina Alta/Marina Baixa area. That is my favourite part of east coast. Try one of the small towns - Denia, Moraira, Calpe or Altea. (Benidorm is a tourist trap, I don't like it).
Car hire and gasoline is very cheap at the moment. And by hiring one, it is possible too see much more. And the route along A7 / E15 is very easy. It takes some 6 hours from Barcelona to Marina Alta.
Then you continue to Alicante, turn inland towards Murcia. I find the Province of Murcia a bit boring, but things get better when you start to see Sierra Nevada in Andalusia. Granada is nice and perhaps you would like to visit the National Park of Sierra Nevada. Alpujarra region is my favourite part of the park.
Again, if you have a car, you might like to make a roudtrip in Sierra Nevada: Trevelez, Alpujarra-Puerto de la Ragua-Calahorra (famous Castle)-Guadix (cave houses).

Thanks for the feedback! I will look into the cities for sure :)

Regarding the budget part....does anyone have any other thoughts? Again, thanks for the help!

If you want to study the landscape in Marina Alta/Marina Baixa and in the National Park of Sierra Nevada, check this: http://www.topwalks.net/en/index.htm
You will find thousands of photographs there!

you have about 1200 euros for 3 weeks, which is about 57 euros daily. I think you can find hostels (like youth hostels) for about 20 euros, if you are savvy about food and transportation I believe you can really have a nice trip in Spain. But really, be careful coz your budget is quite limited.
that means, no traveling plane and no trains, use the buses. Buses in Spain are cheap! and if you want to go museums go on Sundays that most of them are free! :D

A suggestion, why not fly to Madrid then travel to Barcelona by train and then down the Spanish Riviera to Gibraltar, cross the strait to Tanger, Morocco to Casablanca, Fez and Marrakesh, from Marrakesh you can take a cheap ($50 or less)Easyjet flight back to Madrid ;-)

Wow...for some reason, I never got the news that this had posted. I am terribly sorry for the lack of response on my part!

I will be starting a new question, as things have progressed... thanks!
