February in Rome

Hi all, I'd like to spend 5 days in Rome from 05 to Feb. 10

and I would like to know a bit of information on climate, places to see, in which area to stay ... we are four "girls" of 40 years, we would like to have fun as much as possible!

Hello Anna

You can pretty much walk around the most interesting part of Rome so pick up the free map as soon as possible. There will probably be some at the airport. Look out for a tourist office. If you dont find one at the airport there will likely be one at your hotel or hostel.

Bring some layers of clothes. It can be cold especially in the evening but when the sun comes out during the day you might get warm walking around so would need something light to wear.

What type of fun are you looking for? If you give more details about what types of things you like to do it will help others to give you information. What type of accomodation are you looking for? Hotels, hostels?

You could also take a Lonely Planet guide for Rome with you. That has plenty of suggestions about things to do as well as information about accomodation, transport...... It costs around 30 Euros and is available in most bookshops around the world as well as on the interent.

Hi Mel,
first of all thank you, we'd love to stay in a hotel or bed and breakfast in a central area but not too tourism, I mean, an original area where we we can find places for drinking a beer and good places to eat without spending much! Our budget is 50/60 euros per night!

There are plenty of side streets that are beautiful and dont have too many tourists on them so you could just wander around and go down lanes and side streets to the the restaruants and bars there. Tourists tend to congregate on main squares and streets.

I dont know of any hotels because I always stay in hostels.

we booked a lovely bed & breackfast in Trastevere, after reading many good rewies on tripadvisor, the area seems very interesting for us, quiet to sleep but full of restaurants and places to pass some time to relax! Here's the video <snip>

I stayed in Trastevere. You made a good choice. It was very quiet, clean and interesting.
And yes, the area looks nice.

hello Anna,
i was in rome last year for spent around week in italy.
you will need atleast 3 days to visit rome main attractions and vatican.
visit vatican early morning to avoid Qs.
besides that it will be gr8 if you can plan day trip to florence and venice.
its nice to stay near the rome termine and get rome metro day pass or the Three days Rome pass which covers major attractions and rome metro also.

I have been in Rome many times, for the first time is necesary to have an organized plan.
there are many tour operator that you can contact and they hel you with the hotels tours and every thing is much easier.

Hi anna,

I don't know if u have already organized your trip to Rome, but in case u dind't, here are some suggestions: about where to stay, I strongly recommend to find a hotel around the Termini station or downtown as you will not have to worry about the distance...As I frequently take the plane from Rome, very often I decide to spend some days in this splendid city, because I just can't get enough of it...Plus, not being in high season, it should be easy to find a nice 3,4 star hotel at a good price. I reccomed a hotel that is near the Termini station, is called Ambra Palace .. it is very comfortable and u can easily reach all famous attractions and not to forget, the shopping area. Let me know what u have decided or if u want any furher info about where to go and have a nice "party in rome evening"

Here some *must* places to see and visit in Rome: The Colosseum, the Vatican Museums, The Sistine Chapel, Forum Romanum, St Peters Basilica, Pantheon, the Palatine Hill etc.

last minute news since I believe you are about to leave to Italy.

February is still quiet in Rome, I mean, not crowded of tourists...and that's nice!
It is cold for the locals, as me, but not as cold as in the rest of Europe (no cooler
then 0 or -2 at night) and usually it is sunny.
If you want have fun, try to get an hotel/b&B in the centre, near Trastevere
or near Monti district (via degli Zingari, via dei Serpenti, via della Madonna ai MOnti)

Anna,

Congrats in your trip to Rome. We've been fortunate to live next to the Vatican for the past two years. There wil be PLENTY to do in February in Rome. The semi-annual sales start the second week of January so they would still be running into early February. The streets will be FAR LESS crowded. You easily be able to get around Rome by walking (the best way) or by using the public transportation system. These links may help you understand your transportation options:

On my very first visit to Rome I've been very close to Piazza Navona. The quarter is called Rione Parione, Right in the city centre and there's a lot of life, night and day. Plenty of delicious restaurants and typical shops (Via del Governo Vecchio). We found this tiny but yet very cozy apartment, Casa Savelli Guest House. Weather will probably be a bit cold in february, but this in Rome means a particularly clear air with vivid colors, a memorable experience. Moreover the city won't be so crowded by tourists and fares will be more affordable.
