I have the strongest fascination with the Middle East. I suppose that probably means I'll be going there in the future. Has anyone been to Dubai? What do the women wear? Is it a strict place for females? I personally would not have a problem covering up. I don't like being stared at anyway.

Dubai is the most rapidly expanding and modern cities in the world - 60% of the world's tower cranes are there, "arabian man" is certainly right, the UAE is one of the safest places in the world and has everything from breattakingly beautiful dunes, mountains and beaches to buildings that will make you go wow.

I am English and live and work in here in Abu Dhabi, the Emiratis that I have met are courteous, generous and welcoming. I think it is a great place.

Obviously if you walk around the town in a bikini it would be frowned upon, but generally you can wear what you like although covering up from the sun is a good idea too, and in the winter you might need a jumper, especially at night.

i haven't yet been to dubai but friends have and they just loved it!! all women by the way.
i've been using www.tripadvisor.co.uk and www.cranley.com to find out hotel and area info for my planned trip so they might help you out.
i don't think it's like spain where you can literally go around the beach areas and shops in a bikini as some do, but i dont think it's as restricted as some people think it is.
hope you have a great time if you go. let us know where you're staying

Well, as modern and advance Dubai is its still strict about things such as clothing. As a consequence clothing should be conservative in Dubai. As a women you should avoid wearing revealing or tightly fitting clothing, especially in rural areas, and go for garments such as loosely cut trousers and long dresses. Also in some of the smaller <snip>in rural areas you would not be allowed to check in without a man. A women on its own would be rejected at the reception. But this is usually only for smaller and traditional hotels. Remember in the United Emirates a women is stickily speaking not allowed to walk on her own down the street. And there are many more things you should consider just not to be surprised too much. :)

Yes, in regards to checking into a hotel alone, I ran into that in Washington, D.C., and the clothing also not a problem, as I do not like to draw attention to myself.

A trip to Dubai is not complete with a Dubai Desert Safari Tour. A thrilling dive in the sand dunes followed by a BBQ Dinner and live Belly Dance ensures you an experience of a life time in Dubai.

If you're a man, perhaps. Kinda dumb, seeing as how I am the initiator of this post and seriously have no desire to see another woman dance, and not entirely appropriate for this forum. Craigslist erotic section maybe?
