bruce from bryce bruce silliman Post Count: 16 Msg: #1 58 days ago, October 5th 2008 | I've noticed on some maps that there are roads going into the park to Tataranui and to a point opposite from Awaroa campsite. We are interested in driving into the park as far as we can and then using the ending point as a basis for some day and possible 2 day hikes. Has anyone driven on these roads? There is a brief mention in Fodor's 2008 book that the roads are gravel and become somewhat unstable during rainy periods. | Thanks for any information you have, bruce Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 5072 Msg: #2 58 days ago, October 5th 2008 | Hello Bruce :) | I moved this to the Oceania forum. Tell me you don't have so much work to do. You probably choose Oceania, New Zealand from the list but were in the General forum when you posted. :) | GregBrave Greg Brave Post Count: 12 Msg: #5 52 days ago, October 10th 2008 | Hi Bruce, | I did it on Jauary 2008. We drove to Totaranui, camped there, and the next morning walked the section of the Abel Tasman GW from Totaranui to the Separation Point to the Whariwharangi bay and almost till the end, but since we wanted to make it a one day trip, we returned back to Totaranui via the Gibbs hill walk. The roads leading to Totaranui are gravel and little bit scary :) when I drove there it wasn't raining but I can imagine that you have to be much more careful when its raining. But it is doable for any average driver (like I am). The walk itself is great! Number of Users: 3 | Number of Posts: 5 | |||||||||||||
