I am returning to Chile and am now an advanced certived SCUBA diver. I have never heard much about diving in Chile but I know there are some spots. I would love to know where and if they are worth it.
Also I am wondering, for my boyfriend who is coming with me if there is any good fishing north of Santiago. Of course I know about the lake district but unfortunatly we do not have 4 days to waste traveling to get down there. We are hoping there is somewhere close to Santiago along the coast to fish, or perhaps hire a boat?
Any suggestions would help. Thanks

Hi Caroline,

There is quite a lot of diving going on in Chile. Well known places are Algarrobo, Quintay, Zapallar, Papudo, Los Molles and north of La Serena a place called punta chorros. What you do have to know is that it's cold water diving (11°C in winter, 14/15°C in summer). But, with the right suit its no problem. Just make sure you go on a sunny day, that's the important part. Diving in Chile is definitely good diving. Usually it's on the weekend though, because most divers here are locals....

I don't know much about fishing. I do know they do that right from the dock usually.

Cheers
Dennis
