First time traveller to Uruguay

Hello fellow travellers. I am planning to a trip to Uruguay this April. Many people are telling me the best time to visit the country is right now since it's the summer season over there. However, my vacation time begins in April and hopefully i can still catch some Uruguayan sunshine in that month. Do tell me, is the month of April good to travel to Montevideo? It shall be my first time to travel there. I speak some decent Spanish. Can you give some useful and helpful tips pertaining to money, food, lodging, culture and safety? Muchas gracias amigos!
