Khao Sok National park is just a few hours bus ride from Phuket so these 2 are a convenient combination. The boats go between Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan. Another combination for the amount of time you have is a few days in Bangkok and then a few in Kanchanaburi to look a the World War 2 sites.  riding the globe robert davignon Post Count: 8 Msg: #5 136 days ago, August 26th 2008 | i spent one month traveling much of thailand. if you want to relax on beautiful beaches, i would go directly to koh phi phi. it takes time to get to- it is fastest to book a flight from bangkok to phuket, take a bus from phuket airport down to the southern coast where you can take a ferry to koh phi phi. a one way flight is about 100 USD, it is cheaper to take a bus from bangkok to suratthani and go from there to railey for a ferry to koh phi phi, but if you want to maximize your beach time- take the flight. koh samui is nice but it is swamped with resort hotels. koh pha ngan is more backpacker bungalow style. this is where the full moon party is during every full moon (best beach party in the world if you're into that sort of thing). i think the most touristic places in thailand are koh samui and phuket. for my interests, i skipped over both places (although inevitably you find yourself there in transit). | there is plenty to see around koh phi phi, national parks (gorgeous), boat trips, diving, snorkeling, rock climbing (incredible), and much more. infants could travel thailand, it is really easy. TAT (tourist authority of thailand) offices are everywhere. when you arrive in bangkok, go to an office and see what sort of package they can offer you. they can arrange for your flights, bus rides, ferry rides and everything. feel free to shop around, i found that some charge more than others. oh, and when you arrive in bangkok, if you fly into suvarnabhumi airport, instead of taking a taxi and getting ripped off, go to the bottom floor to exit to the street, there is a small kiosk at the end which is for a bus ride to khao san road (which is where most tourists find themselves in bangkok- its a fun experience). you're going to have an amazing time- enjoy!! farlap Peter Farlam Post Count: 14 Msg: #6 134 days ago, August 28th 2008 | Hi Robert I have no word to tell how you simplified my outing. Thanks!!! riding the globe robert davignon Post Count: 8 Msg: #7 134 days ago, August 28th 2008 | wow, that is a lot of ground to cover. ok so africa i have not traveled yet. my friends that have say that it can be difficult, but they did it. i would try the africa travel forum on this site for advice. | as for india, i am planning my first trip there in january. just so you have an idea, i am planning 4 weeks there. 2 weeks in northern india, 2 weeks in the south. india is such a large country, i feel it would be impossible to try to see everything in 4 weeks. so i chose the places that most interest me- i will fly into delhi, after one night, i will fly into the south and see the keralan backwaters. from there i will fly into nepal to see kathmandu for 5-7 days. from there i am looking into taking a train from kathmandu to darjeeling. after a few nights in darjeeling, i will head to agra to see the taj mahal. after the taj, and if time permits i will try to get up to dharamsala, and then back to delhi to fly out. for you, with 8 weeks... i would try to fly throughout india if you plan to see more than one small area because trains can take up sometimes more than a whole day/night. based on what i understand, thailand seems like it will be the easiest of your travels, so think about saving that for last- a relaxed way to end your 8 week holiday. if you are booking this through an agent, make sure to look into any flights within africa. one friend who recently returned told me that he booked a flight in advance from kenya to burundi and when he arrived at the airport, he was told that the flight he was scheduled for hasn't been in service for over 8 years. he said he went through hell to actually get to burundi. but alas, this is burundi and that is not on your itinerary. have a blast on your adventures! farangatang David John Post Count: 3 Msg: #8 133 days ago, August 29th 2008 | GO TO PATTAYA! catch the bus from level 1, gate 7, only 150baht. google Pattaya. u will have the BEST time of ur life, guaranteed! | Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 5517 Msg: #9 133 days ago, August 29th 2008 | Whether you will have the time of your life in Pattaya is a matter of opinion.
