Hi Mikymro,
Welcome to China. You are right that China is very very different from Europeans.
One way from Kazakstan to China is that fly from Kazakstan to Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and then fly or take by the train to Beijing. Another way is that go by land through Alataw Pass, or Alashankou where is border Kazakstan and China. then go to Urumqi and then to Beijing.
There maybe a ferryboat from Shanghai to America. I will check it again if you need.
If you have any other questions or need any help, Please mail to me. THANKS!

Hello again. I am asking again for some details about our plan... we want to do this trip by car, so we established a route to kazakstan and we plan to enter china to Urumqi and from there to Wuwei and further to Xinhuaqiao.
and from there i found 2 routes to Beijing. one goes north through Wuda, Wuhai, Wuyuan, Donghe and Beijing, and one goes south through Jingbian, Hsiao-ho, Wubu, Wenshui, Huolo Linagxiang and then Beijing. And from there i was interested to find a ferryboat to America. if anyone could point me to a site, or give me an email of a ferry company, it will be great. i wanted to ask in what language are the road signs? latin letters or chineese alphabet? i am also interested how long is this route to china and what is the status of this road. it seems that all the route planning softwares or sites don't have china updated... please help.
